Survey Says Music Helped Most People During Lockdown

Over half of those surveyed said music helped.

The first survey of its kind found that music was noted to be key to helping people cope with lockdown.

A survey of 50 thousand people has found that music was noted as a key feature in their lives during the lockdown(s) by almost 27,000. The survey asked participants to select from entertainment options including streaming tv, art, DIY and listening to music.

According to the record label body BPI, streaming of music soured during the lockdown periods. Indeed social media was host to an array of DJs setting up their decks in kitchens in place of their nightclub residencies. Despite the convenience of filming a DJ mix via social media, there was a spike in take down requests from record labels who were concerned about copyright issues. Mixcloud seized the moment with the launch of their own, legally-supported DJ live stream service during the first UK lockdown in 2020.
