DJ Lady C Mix: Stream the South West Tech-House DJ Mix
Episode 14/26
DJ Lady C
We are thrilled to welcome North Devon’s own Charlotte, better known behind the decks as DJ Lady C, to our podcast mix series with a high-energy tech-house set designed purely to make people smile and move. First and foremost a dedicated raver, Charlotte launched her DJ career over 20 years ago to share the exact joy, energy, and deep dancefloor connection she experiences as a clubber. While her early days were defined by high-octane hard house and inspired by OG female icons like Lisa Lashes, Anne Savage, and Pin Up, her modern style has evolved into what she affectionately calls "swing your pants music." Today, the South West DJ commands the room with an upbeat, continuous tech-house groove, seamlessly blending crisp rhythms with cheeky hip-house samples and lively vocals. This signature sound draws inspiration from electronic music heavyweights like Loco Dice, John Summit, and Mau P, ensuring that every track she uncovers evokes genuine emotion and keeps the crowd moving from start to finish.
Charlotte’s triumphant return to the decks just three years ago - following a hiatus to compete her horse and focus on motherhood - has sparked a meteoric rise across the South West UK club and festival scene. A spontaneous, last-minute booking at a Girls Next Door afterparty quickly snowballed into a massive gig opening the iconic Arcadia Afterburner stage at Bristol's Valley Fest, culminating this past New Year's Day in a surprise invitation to become an official resident DJ for the legendary Magic Hatstand family. Having learned that modern DJing requires intense dedication off the decks through music networking, supporting local nightlife, and remaining fiercely reliable, the rising artist is already working towards her next natural milestone: producing original house music tracks. For this exclusive podcast episode, DJ Lady C has delivered a wonderfully cheeky selection that weaves fresh new tunes and personal guilty pleasures with a special track request from her husband, making it the perfect introduction to her infectious sound - so turn it up and dive into the groove!

Artist Interview
...I got to open the Arcadia Afterburner stage...
Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.
Hi I'm Charlotte aka DJ Lady C a House - Tech DJ from North Devon
Firstly I’m a raver which is exactly why I got into DJing over 20 years ago. I wanted to give other people that same feeling I get when I’m out on the dancefloor: joy-energy and that special connection through music.
My sound/style has somewhat evolved over the years. Back in the day it was all about the hard house energy, but these days it’s toned down a little… though not too much! I like to call it “swing your pants music” — makes you want to move. It’s upbeat, with a solid, continuous groove running through it all. I love working with crisp techy sounds, throwing in those cheeky hip-house samples, and weaving in great vocals to keep things lively from start to finish.
What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?
I actually took a break from DJing for quite a while — stepping away to compete my horse and focus on becoming a mum — so I’ve only been back behind the decks for around three years now. Since I picked up the headphones again, things have just taken off!
It all started quite randomly...I was asked to DJ last minute at an afterparty for a Girls Next Door night — then I got to open the Arcadia Afterburner stage at Bristol's Valley fest ..which was immense. Since then I’ve been playing across clubs and festivals all over the South West but the absolute highlight came this New Year’s Day, when I got a surprise call from the owners of The Magic Hatstand — after playing a couple of guest sets for them, they asked if I’d like to come on board as an official resident! It feels like the perfect home for my sound, and I couldn’t be happier to be part of the MHS family.
Looking ahead, the next step feels pretty clear to me — the natural progression for any DJ... I’ve always wanted to start producing my own tracks, so that’s the big goal I’m working towards now....watch this space.....
Tell us something that you know now that you wished you knew when you first started DJing.
If there’s one big lesson I’ve learned along the way that I would tell my younger self it’s this: social skills and networking are everything! When I first started out, it was all about the music, the party, and having a good time — don’t get me wrong, that’s still at the heart of it all! What I didn’t realise then though is that if you want to turn this into something more, you’ve got to put the work in off the decks too. You have to get out there, support the clubs and events you love, meet the promoters, chat to other DJs, and build those connections. It’s not just about being good behind the mixer — you’ve got to show up, be reliable, and put the effort in!

...searching out tracks that actually make me feel something, not just fit a genre.
What artists have inspired your DJ style?
As for my influences? My OG heroes back in the day were the absolute queens of hard house: Lisa Lashes, Anne Savage, and Pin Up — they set the bar high and showed me exactly what energy and attitude behind the decks look like. Over the years though, my influences have grown wider. A lot of my sound these days just comes from digging deep — searching out tracks that actually make me feel something, not just fit a genre. These days I’m really inspired by the likes of Loco Dice, John Summit, Mau P to name a few— DJs who know how to build a groove, keep it rolling, and most importantly, play music that makes me want to get up and dance..that's what it's all about! If it moves me, I know it’ll move a crowd too.
Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.
And as for this mix you’re about to hear? Hmm, haha… I’ve been a little cheeky with it, if I’m honest! It’s got a few of my guilty pleasures, some fresh new tunes thrown in and maybe a request from the hubby . It’s music that makes me smile, so I hope it does the same for you! TURN IT UP!
