I have seen melodic beats podcast and recordings grow really well, I hope it has given people an extra avenue for great music of the deep, melodic and progressive worlds.

Hi, please introduce yourself to those who are unfamiliar with your DJ work.

I first started to DJ in 1990 . I was lucky enough to experience the early dance culture and movement which has developed into the music scene of today. I also had the pleasure in working and playing alongside some of the biggest names in the game, including Carl Cox, Timo Maas, Shades of Rhythm, K Klass, Hybrid , Nick Warren to name a few... For that Decade, I was resident at the two most prominent southwest clubs, The Warehouse and The Academy, which welcomed all the world renowned DJ’s of the time, along with travelling the length and breadth of the UK guesting at various nights.  I also promoted my own nights in the Plymouth area along with working with record labels including Urban Collective. I was also very fortunate to work with Children of Kaos and then Kaos Design during this time. A break from the music scene to concentrate on his new family and career, I moved away from the music thing for a while, then a few years ago, contact with a local influential figure, Loukas pour Hashemi, got me back into the music which led to the inception of melodic beats podcast. I just wanted an outlet for the music i loved and the podcast seemed like the sensible and most viable option...  Following the birth of Melodic Beats Podcast, I enlisted the help of Tim French and Apostille who shared the passion for the music.  Shortly after realising the want and will to progress the Melodic Beats Music brand, I formed Melodic Beats Recordings to put out the music he was passionate about, but also for a platform for Tim, Apostille and me. This then quickly grew as an outlet for artists to get their music heard, and now an outlet for established Artists…. The one piece missing was putting on events, which was something he knew so well, as I had spent so many years, promoting, DJ’ing and working alongside people within the music scene, so this was addressed and Melodic beats events was born. Even with the world turning upside down in 2020,  our first event, hosting Anjunadeeps Jody Wisternoff was a sell out and now 2021 is well and truly getting planned out…… This summer we have a few events planned at the Terrace, a socially distanced event in may with the DancersHip boys and Spiritchaser, then for our first solo outing, we have Jody Wisternoff booked for 24th July and the Tim Green from All day I Dream booked on 18th September…

Talk us through how you have utilised your time during the lockdown.

Its been incredibly difficult for so many, but for me, I have seen melodic beats podcast and recordings grow really well, I hope its given people an extra avenue for great music of the deep, melodic and progressive worlds. It has enabled me to connect with so many fantastic people and DJ’s and luckily what we’ve been doing has been really well received. So on the music front, I’ve been really fortunate… Lots of time and effort, which the lockdown has given me,  but it's been so rewarding.

I don’t just play one sound and that’s it. It’s a blend of a few genres but in my ears it has to flow.

Describe your DJ style.

My DJ Style…….. That’s a question… So for me, the music i love (in the dance world) is everything from the organically deep and melodic house with a bit of progressive house and breaks chucked in!!!!!! In all honesty the music I play is within the brackets of those genres, but what I actually play is influenced by mood and location / setting, time of day. To be honest theres quite a few influencing factors. I don’t just play one sound and that’s it. It’s a blend of a few genres but in my ears it has to flow. Hopefully for the people who know me, they will know they’ll hear great music.

Talk us through your Podcast Mix track selection.

So my podcast selection as explained just now, I always like to think of a mix as if you are doing a warm up slot. That way I get to play the more deeper / organic side of what I like to the driving underground house sounds, which I also love. It enables me to cross a couple boundaries and build a mix to the end…. I have started here with an exclusive from my Label, Melodic Beats Recordings, with a beautifully produced hypnotic progressive breaks track leading into a deeper sound which then just builds and builds. Throughout the mix I have included some exclusive mixes from the Label, which I am super proud to be releasing in the coming months, and some favourites of mine at the moment.

The main elements of the mix is that its driving organic house sounds with an underlying hypnotic groove and atmospheric edge, but primarily it totally grabs you as you go through the mix. And finishes with a bang!
