Lee Drift Pure House Session
Episode 9/26
Lee Drift
Lee Drift is a Cornwall-based House music DJ and producer with an impressive 32-year legacy behind the decks. A career highlight came with his signing to Flashmob Records, where his debut release earned support from industry titans like Jamie Jones, Sam Divine, and Roger Sanchez. Currently entering a prolific creative phase, Lee is preparing for a string of summer releases that he considers his best work to date, drawing production inspiration from the likes of Flashmob and Cornish legend Freejack.
His upcoming gig schedule is equally busy, featuring sets at the Lost Lake Festival and a bucket-list performance alongside his hero, Slipmatt, at House Revolution. For this podcast mix, Lee is moving away from Tech House to embrace a "pure House" sound. By focusing on funk and vocal grooves, he is dedicated to providing the perfect soundtrack for the summer months ahead.

Artist Interview
...you can’t please everyone so don’t feel as though you need to.
Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.
Hi I’m Lee Drift, House music DJ and producer from Cornwall. I’ve been about on the scene for quite a long time now. 2026 marks 32 years behind the decks which is mad looking back over the years!
What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?
Highlights for me would definitely be signing to Flashmob Records and having my debut release on the label supported by some of the biggest names in House music, including Jamie Jones, Shiba San, Sam Divine, Roger Sanchez, Blond:ish, obviously Flashmob himself and loads more. It’s been amazing and I’m looking forward to working with Sandro (Flashmob) a lot more moving forward. I have a number of releases lineup which are due out over the summer and beyond and I really feel like I’m making the best music I’ve ever made.
On the gig front I have some fantastic bookings coming up in London, the midlands and lots more closer to home including Lost Lake Festival in North Devon. Also playing alongside Slipmatt at House Revolution in Hereford which I’m absolutely buzzing for as he’s a big hero of mine going back to the early 90s rave days.
Tell us something that you know now that you wished you knew when you first started DJing.
Great question! DJing has changed so much over the years into something that bares little resemblance to what it was when I first started. Social media has a lot to answer for both good and bad. But something that new DJs need to realise is that with popularity comes distain. The bigger your name becomes the wider the audience will be of people who not only love what you’re doing, but unfortunately, there will also be more people who won’t like what you’re doing for whatever reason. That just comes with the territory but you can’t please everyone so don’t feel as though you need to. Just stay true to yourself.
Also, your biggest supporters will usually be people who aren’t your friends and family. You may even pick up resentment from those who have known you the longest. This is human nature so don’t take it personally. This is something that a lot of DJs, music producers and band members alike will come to realise.
It can be frustrating but just try not to let it get to you.

...I wanted to take it back to just pure quality House music...
What artists have inspired your DJ style?
I’m not really sure which artists have particularly influenced my DJ style as such. Although I have most certainly taken influence from other artists in my own productions though. Sandro/Flashmob is most definitely one who I find myself referencing my productions to in the studio. Also Cornish Legend Freejack as his productions are just super slick. Rob is without a shadow of doubt one of the UK’s best music producers.
Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.
Ok, so for this particular mix I wanted to take it back to just pure quality House music and leave a lot of the Tech House sounds that I’ve been playing these past few years at the door. Bringing the funk, groove and vocals out for the Spring and Summer months. I really hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did putting this mix together.
