Alkie

Next up in the spotlight on Little South is Alkie, a DJ and producer who has been a driving force in the South West electronic music scene since stepping behind the decks in 2019. A familiar name across regional dancefloors, his infectious, groove-heavy sets have commanded major festival stages like Boardmasters and packed out key venues like The Depo, both through his solo work and as one half of the electronic duo Symbiosis. Though Alkie intentionally slowed down his touring schedule over the past year to travel and soak in fresh artistic inspiration, a recent return to the decks at Cosmic Kitchen alongside local heavyweights Alfie Crook, Flambe, and Steve Bell proved exactly why he belongs in the booth. Rooted deeply in the community spirit that defines the region, Alkie draws endless inspiration from the collective hustle of the scene - from fellow DJs and producers to the promoters and venue owners working tirelessly behind the scenes.

While live appearances took a temporary backseat, Alkie’s time in the studio has been incredibly prolific, culminating in 10 track releases over the last 12 months, including a milestone signing on the renowned Mood Child label in May 2026. This chapter of creative exploration reinforced his core philosophy: to ignore the superficial pressure of social media stats and focus entirely on the integrity of the music and the connection it creates. That exact passion is poured directly into his latest exclusive mix. Crafted simply for the love of the dancefloor, the set is an energetic, rhythm-driven journey that fuses heavy tribal house and tech house cuts before gradually winding down into the hypnotic, rolling spaces of minimal and deep tech. Packed with his signature driving bass grooves and intricate percussion, it’s a masterclass in building momentum - and Alkie hopes you have as much fun diving into the soundscape as he did putting it together.

Artist Interview

A white background with a few lines on it

...I recently played an amazing event at Cosmic Kitchen alongside some great local artists...

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

My name is Alkie, and I’m a DJ and producer from the South West of England. I’ve been DJing since 2019 and have been fortunate enough to perform at some major venues, festivals and events across the South West. Some highlights include The Depo and Boardmasters, as well as many other events, both as part of the duo Symbiosis and as a solo performer.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

The last 12 months have been really kind to me, particularly on the production side of things. I’ve released 10 tracks over the past year, including a release on the Mood Child label in May 2026, which was a real highlight for me.

This year, I’ve taken more of a backseat from DJing to focus on travelling and experiencing some new things. That said, I recently played an amazing event at Cosmic Kitchen alongside some great local artists, including Alfie Crook, Flambe and Steve Bell. It was a great reminder of how much I enjoy being behind the decks.

Moving forward, I’m looking to keep developing my production, releasing more music and getting back out there for more DJ sets and events. I’m excited to see where the next chapter takes me.

Tell us something that you know now that you wished you knew when you first started DJing.

Enjoy every second of every set and get to know your audience. It’s easy when you’re starting out to become too focused on stats, numbers and social media, but they don’t always tell the full story. For me, the most important thing is enjoying the music, connecting with the people in front of you and creating a memorable experience.

Don’t always chase the numbers. Enjoy the journey.

...I think there’s always something to learn from the people around you.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

My influences change, as most things do in life, but I’m always inspired by the people who continue to push forward and keep going, especially within the music industry. That inspiration can come from anywhere - promoters, event planners, venue owners, DJs, producers and everyone working behind the scenes. Every individual brings something different to the industry, and I think there’s always something to learn from the people around you.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.
With this mix, I simply wanted to have fun with a sound that I really love. I’ve focused on tribal house and tech house, with a little bit of minimal/deep tech towards the end. I’m a huge fan of a strong bass groove and interesting percussion, so those elements naturally feature heavily throughout the mix.

I wanted the selection to feel energetic, groovy and enjoyable from start to finish, while still taking the listener on a bit of a journey.

Hopefully you have as much fun listening to the mix as I did putting it together!
