Artist Interview

...I’m all about feel-good grooves with a cheeky twist.

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

I go by Fatboy Tim, and my sound is rooted in House, funky breaks, and high-energy party vibes. It’s a modern nod to the Fatboy Slim era, playful, percussive, and built to make people move. Whether it's a club night or a festival stage, I’m all about feel-good grooves with a cheeky twist.

That carnival chaos, the mash-up madness, the sense of fun… it’s all a big part of what I do.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

It’s been a cracking year, the crowd at Somerrocks Festival was absolutely unreal, one of those sets where everything just clicks. Playing the closing party at Bestival was another huge moment serious energy and the perfect way to wrap up a big weekend. Looking ahead, I’ve still got a full calendar: plenty more festivals, plus gigs at Butlins, Freight Island in Manchester and a bit closer to home I’m at the Unicorn Porthtown just before Christmas. The tunes (and the confetti) are locked and loaded.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

Just keep going. Don’t wait until it’s “perfect” throw yourself in, learn by doing, and have a laugh along the way. Everyone starts somewhere, and the more fun you're having behind the decks, the more it shows in the music. Stay true to what makes you buzz, and the right crowd will find you.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

Fatboy Slim is the main man, the influence is right there in the name. That carnival chaos, the mash-up madness, the sense of fun… it’s all a big part of what I do. I’m also into what artists like Groove Armada, The Chemical Brothers, and Basement Jaxx brought to the table — that big-room energy mixed with groove and grit.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

This mix is my tribute to Fatboy Slim’s “Everybody Loves a Carnival” so expect big rhythms, tropical percussion, and a full-on street party feel. It’s got that sun-drenched, horn-blaring, rum in hand vibe a proper carnival soundtrack with a house and breakbeat backbone. I wanted to capture that sense of celebration, movement, and mischief, the kind of mix that makes you want to dance down the middle of the road with your mates.
