Spotify Adds New Features For DJs

Spotify now allows songs to be mixed within the app and adds support for Rekordbox.

Recently, Spotify has introduced significant updates to its platform, enhancing user experience and functionality. One of the most notable features is the integration with existing DJ software like Rekordbox, allowing users to utilize Spotify's vast music library for DJing. Additionally, the Spotify app now includes a feature that enables automatic mixing powered by AI, as well as options for users to manually set up mixes using various effects and EQ settings. While this new functionality may not replace dedicated DJ software, it offers a convenient solution for home parties and casual events.

Spotify has officially introduced Lossless audio for Premium subscribers. This long-awaited feature is now being gradually rolled out to listeners in select markets. Premium users will be notified through the Spotify app when Lossless audio becomes available to them. This high-quality audio format enhances the listening experience, allowing users to enjoy maximum sound quality while exploring new albums or revisiting classic favorites.

Spotify users around the world have soundtracked their everyday moments by creating nearly 9 billion playlists. Now, Premium users can take their creativity to the next level with the ability to add and customise transitions between tracks.

The feature, now in beta, gives users even more control - allowing music lovers and playlist experts alike to easily create unique playlists. Seamlessly transition between tracks, customize how they flow together, and enhance your mix with features like volume, EQ, and effect curves.

If you are new to audio mixing, there are several effective strategies to enhance your Spotify mixed playlist experience.

Match Tempos and Keys: To create seamless transitions between songs, select tracks that share similar tempos and Camelot keys. When using the “Mix” feature, you can easily view the key and BPM (beats per minute) for each song, allowing for an efficient scanning and reordering process to achieve a smoother playlist flow.

Start with Transition-Friendly Genres: Certain music genres, particularly dance genres like house and techno, are specifically produced for smooth transitions. These genres tend to blend more effectively, making them ideal for mixing.

Consider the Energy: It is important to be mindful of the mood and energy you wish to convey in your playlist. Planning the order of your songs to gradually build up or wind down energy can create a more engaging listener experience, guiding them through different emotional states.

Utilize Your Best Playlists: Mixing is particularly beneficial for situations where you wish to eliminate awkward pauses. For example, you can enhance your running playlist with consistent BPMs to maintain your pace, or curate a road trip or party playlist that keeps the energy flowing.

Visualize It: To personalize your playlist further, consider creating custom cover art using new stickers and labels available exclusively for mixed playlists.

Spotify Premium serves as an ideal platform for music enthusiasts, continuously evolving to enhance the listening experience. With the introduction of custom transitions in playlists, users are encouraged to tailor their listening experiences and express themselves through the music they cherish. This new feature is currently being rolled out to eligible Premium users, so it is advisable to ensure your Spotify app is updated.

Spotify integration in DJ software

Serato, Rekordbox, and Djay Pro have integrated Spotify as a streaming service within their platforms, reintroducing the widely used music streaming service to the DJing community after several years. These platforms now allow users to select Spotify alongside a range of other current streaming services, including Apple Music, Tidal, Beatport, Beatsource, and SoundCloud. After selecting Spotify and logging into a premium account, users can access their entire Spotify library or navigate through specific playlists created on the platform. Additionally, there are several curated playlists available, which can be beneficial for DJs looking to easily discover and play music.
