Artist Interview
My modern house style ranges from uplifting female vocals and hypnotic melodies...
Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.
Hi, I’m Becky Blue and I’m a house DJ from Perranporth on the North coast of Cornwall. I’m pretty fresh to the South West music scene with some great sets under the belt over the past couple of years. My modern house style ranges from uplifting female vocals and hypnotic melodies - evoking a warm, summery beach vibe - to a deeper, more minimal tech sound with nostalgic nods to the '90s.

Believe in yourself and anything is possible.
What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?
Highlights over the past year have been gracing the decks for the iconic Masked Ball, playing several sets for Bang Bang Club Cornwall as well as holding a residency on the all-female radio show Sirens of Sound on FMR Radio. A recent competition win secured a slot at Altitude Festival, where I’ll be opening the Electric Avenue music stage this July. One of my DJ goals is to travel so I’d love to find myself playing abroad, basically a great excuse to see new places and meet new people!
Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.
I’m a 43 year old mum of two. If there’s something you want to do it, then just do it. I guess starting to DJ at an older age than some is more unusual but it’s bringing me so much joy, energy and happiness and hopefully that in turn is passed to people that listen to my sets. Seeing people smiling, dancing and sharing the beats is unreal. Having always loved electronic music and finding my way to Ibiza at 19 hitting iconic club nights such as Clockwork Orange, Cream and Manumission. I was always going to find my way to the decks at some point. Stoked I got here eventually!
Believe in yourself and anything is possible. There’s going to be mistakes along the way and it won’t always be perfect but stay humble, listen and learn from others then keep going until it gets easier!
What artists have inspired your DJ style?
Locally I have drawn inspiration from the host talented and well renowned Engine House DJ’s, known for their unique sound and unforgettable underground events across the South West. Female producers Sally C and Paige Tomlinson are also of great inspiration with their modern house sound and nineties vibe.
I’m hoping to begin learning music production this winter, so starting to collate sounds that inspire me and working on my ‘sound’ is a really enjoyable and addictive process.
Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.
My mix for Little South leans into a ‘90s minimal house aesthetic, featuring tracks from female producer Paige Tomlinson, as well as The Trip, Murphy’s Law, and Audiojack. I’ve been exploring this modern house sound in some recent sets where appropriate, so sharing some of my favourite tracks with Little South listeners is a real treat! Enjoy x
