Jembaa Groove will be performing at Mount Pleasant Eco Park on November 23rd, 2024. The band is known for their innovative Afro-Soul music. Founded in late 2020 by bass player and composer Yannick Nolting and singer-percussionist Eric Owusu, Jembaa Groove consists of seven members. Their music reflects a blend of contemporary sounds from Berlin’s underground music scene and traditional West African influences, particularly from Ghana and Mali.

Jembaa Groove – Fresh Afro-Soul Music – Ghana’s Highlife going by the heartbeat of 70s Soul Music.

A multicultural band founded in late 2020 by bass player and composer Yannick Nolting and singer-percussionist Eric Owusu. This 7-piece live band combines fresh sounds from Berlin’s underground music scene with traditional West-African sounds from Ghana and Mali.

After garnering massive support from the international media world (KEXP, BBC 6, Gilles Peterson, Soulection, WDR, FIP etc) of the back of their debut album Susuma in 2022, Jembaa Groove come forth to the Eco Park this November with their second studio album Ye Ankasa/We ourselves.

Infused by fundamental elements of Ghanian Highlife from the 70’s, the band has its own take on a number of influences that goes far beyond just trying to imitated the greats that came before. With their rousing and energetic live performances they have made themselves a name throughout Europe and beyond.

Get ready for Jembaa Groove to take you on a journey, floating through a variety of dreamy horn lines, stirring guitars and celestial vocals.

Being a mix of members of African and European descend hailing from different corners of the planet, Jembaa Groove blend a melting pot of influences that result in what they say is a contemporary take on Highlife, Jazz and Soul.

My musical style is characterised by warm house music...

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

Between 2000 and 2010, I was heavily involved in the house music scene at various bars and clubs in the South West. However, due to the demands of my day job, I was unable to perform as frequently as I desired. As a result, I shifted my focus from playing live events to event promotion, which led to the creation of Little South. My musical style is characterised by warm house music, infused with elements of nostalgic late 90s trance.

...Ben Hemsley - this guy seems to have captured much of the warm late 90s trance sound in his recent releases.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

If you enjoy doing something, keep doing it and surround yourself with like-minded people. It is ok to change direction and adapt.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

I would say inspirational artists definitely started off with Pete Tong and Norman Cook. Artists over the years that I follow include Chicane, Joris Voorn, LP Giobbi, Lane 8, TSHA, Franky Wah and Ben Hemsley - this guy seems to have captured much of the warm late 90s trance sound in his recent releases.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

This house music mix was fun to record and I wanted to include some of the warm trance-like sounds that seem to be making a return this year. I have included tracks from Franky Wah, LP Giobbi, Notre Dame, Enertia-Sound and Sasha.

I’m Emwhy Ello, an open format DJ from the UK with over 20 years of experience in the music scene. My sound is all about energy and diversity. I specialise in UK Garage, house, reggae/ dancehall, and R&B, but I love to blend different genres into one seamless mix. My goal is to create unforgettable vibes that keep people moving, whether I’m spinning at a private event, on a beach, or during a boat party. I like to keep it fresh and exciting, so you never know what’s coming next, but you can be sure it’ll get you dancing!

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

The past year has been incredible! One of the highlights was playing at some truly unique locations, including beach parties in the Canary Islands and a couple of fantastic club nights in Paris. I also had the pleasure of hosting some special guests on my radio show, 'The Culture Show,' and getting the chance to feature rising talent from across the globe. Moving forward, I’m looking to take my sound to new cities and continue pushing the boundaries with more international bookings. I’ve got some collaborations in the pipeline with artists from different genres, so keep an eye out for some exciting projects in 2025!

Don’t be afraid to experiment and find your unique sound because that’s what sets you apart. It’s not always about being perfect — it’s about connecting with your audience and creating moments. Stay passionate, stay open, and never stop learning.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

I’ve been influenced by a range of artists over the years. Early on, the sounds of Todd Edwards and DJ EZ really shaped my approach to UK Garage. Their ability to create intricate mixes and keep a crowd on their toes is something I’ve always admired. I also draw inspiration from legends like David Rodigan for his deep knowledge of reggae/dancehall and his incredible energy on stage. More recently, artists like Kaytranada have inspired me with their ability to blend house, R&B, and hip-hop in such a fresh, innovative way. I take inspiration from all these styles and make them my own.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

For this 60-minute mix, I took it back to where it all began—old skool garage. This genre was one of the first I ever started mixing in the early 2000s, and it still holds a special place for me. The selection is a mix of timeless classics and some hidden gems that really define the UK Garage sound. You’ll hear tracks that have that signature bumpy bassline and soulful vocals, elements that made the genre such a defining part of the UK underground scene. I wanted to create a nostalgic journey for listeners while also introducing some elements that still sound fresh today. It’s all about that raw energy and vibe that makes garage so infectious. The summer of 2024 brought a symphony of sounds to the South West, transforming Devon and Cornwall into a hub of music and celebration. As a DJ and music enthusiast, I had the pleasure of witnessing firsthand the range of festivals that filled our long, sunny days with unforgettable performances and community spirit. Let’s take a closer look at some of the standout music festivals and DJ events that made this summer so special.

Tunes in the Park: A Fusion of Familiar and Fresh

This year's Tunes in the Park at the Port Eliot Estate in Cornwall was a perfect blend of nostalgia and contemporary pop. Spanning from August 22nd to 25th, the festival featured a lineup that was as diverse as it was thrilling. With acts like McFly, Busted, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, the event brought a welcome dose of early 2000s pop, while artists like Paloma Faith and Natasha Bedingfield kept the lineup current.

Beyond the music, the addition of comedy performances by Frankie Boyle and Al Murray created a unique festival experience that was both entertaining and engaging. Set against the scenic backdrop of Port Eliot, this festival proved to be a highlight of the summer, perfectly capturing the laid-back yet lively spirit of Cornwall.

Eden Sessions: Concerts in a Natural Wonderland

The Eden Sessions once again offered a unique concert experience nestled within the biomes of the Eden Project. Spread across June and July, this series of gigs featured an eclectic lineup that included Fatboy Slim, Paolo Nutini, Suede, and The Manic Street Preachers.

Meanwhile, the surf competitions at Fistral Beach kept the adrenaline high, attracting surf enthusiasts from all over. Boardmasters’ ability to merge music, sport, and a love for the beach lifestyle makes it a unique fixture in the summer festival calendar and a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the best of the South West.

The Big Tribute Fest: Hits You Love, Performers Who Deliver

For those craving a bit of nostalgia, The Big Tribute Fest in Plymouth offered a weekend of familiar tunes performed by some of the best tribute acts around. From August 9th to 11th, the festival featured acts like Coldplace (a tribute to Coldplay), Spice Forever (a tribute to the Spice Girls), and Oasish (a tribute to Oasis), providing an experience that was both fun and reminiscent of the original bands.

The event, housed in a large tent in Central Park, Plymouth, provided a weatherproof environment where fans could enjoy classic hits without the typical festival worries about rain or mud. The atmosphere was one of pure enjoyment, celebrating the music that has defined different eras and continues to bring people together.

Both IOWLA and Nathaniel Sim are popular figures within the Little South podcast roster, known for their dedication to genres including bass, melodic house, techno, and various styles of dance music.

What’s Happening with Traktor, Serato, and the Future of DJing.

As a long-time Traktor user, I have always admired the software's depth and flexibility, which allow DJs to craft their sets with precision and creativity. However, the DJ software landscape has recently shifted in interesting ways. Native Instruments released Traktor Pro 4, which sparked excitement among its users; shortly after, Serato released an update that unexpectedly expanded its compatibility with Native Instruments hardware. Let us look at what these changes might mean for Traktor fans and the larger DJ community.

Serato’s Expansion: A Competitive Play?

Serato's most recent update, which adds support for Native Instruments controllers such as the Traktor Kontrol S2 MK3 and S3, raises some interesting questions. This move allows Serato to tap into a previously Traktor-only user base, giving DJs the option of using Serato's software on hardware they already own. It could be interpreted as a strategic effort to encourage DJs who prefer Traktor hardware to try Serato, particularly its advanced features like stem-separation, which allows users to manipulate individual elements of a track live, such as vocals or basslines. This could be perceived as Serato challenging Traktor directly, aiming to attract some of its users by offering compatibility with their existing equipment. By supporting these popular Native Instruments controllers, Serato isn’t just broadening its user base; it’s making a statement about versatility and choice in DJ software.

Native Instruments’ Possible Strategy Shift

On the other hand, Native Instruments' apparent willingness to collaborate with Serato could suggest a shift in their strategy. Rather than sticking to a single-software approach, they might be looking to make their hardware more versatile, allowing it to work with multiple DJ software platforms. This would make their products more appealing to a wider range of DJs, catering to those who prefer different software without requiring them to switch hardware. This approach could be particularly effective in light of the recent decision by the New Zealand Commerce Commission to block AlphaTheta’s (owner of Pioneer DJ and Rekordbox) attempt to acquire Serato. The regulatory body expressed concerns that such a merger would reduce competition and potentially harm consumers by raising prices or reducing the quality of DJ software available. Native Instruments, by contrast, might be positioning itself to benefit from a market that values choice and diversity.

Traktor: The Fall from the Top

However, it’s important to acknowledge that Traktor isn’t quite the powerhouse it once was in the DJ software market. There was a time when Traktor was considered the leader in digital DJing, celebrated for its innovation and robust feature set. It was the go-to software for many professional DJs, particularly in the realms of electronic music and club DJing. But times have changed. Traktor has seen its position slip in the rankings over the past few years, now finding itself in fourth place behind competitors like Serato DJ Pro, Rekordbox DJ, and VirtualDJ.

Several factors have contributed to this decline:

Stiffer Competition: Competitors like Serato and Rekordbox have been aggressive in expanding their user bases, offering features that directly appeal to both new and seasoned DJs. Serato, for example, has made significant strides with its integration of streaming services, user-friendly interface, and recent compatibility with a wider range of hardware. Rekordbox, backed by Pioneer DJ, has cemented its place in clubs worldwide, making it a default choice for many professionals.

Lack of Frequent Updates: For a period, Native Instruments seemed to lag in terms of updating Traktor and introducing new features. While Traktor was revolutionary with its introduction of the Remix Decks and later the Stem Decks, there was a lull in significant updates, during which time competitors were rapidly evolving their software offerings and hardware compatibility.

Shift in Market Needs: As the DJ market has expanded, so too have the needs and preferences of DJs. There’s been a noticeable trend towards more user-friendly, accessible software that integrates seamlessly with streaming platforms and a variety of hardware setups. Traktor, with its deep customisation options and unique workflow, remains popular among a niche of highly technical DJs but may not appeal as broadly to the newer generation of DJs looking for plug-and-play simplicity.

Implications for Traktor Users

For those of us who favour Traktor, these developments are quite significant. First, it’s a signal that Native Instruments is still actively involved in the DJ software game and potentially preparing for something new. Whether it’s a new line of hardware or further enhancements to Traktor Pro 4, there’s a sense that they’re aiming to provide more value and options to their user base.

Additionally, the fact that Serato is pushing into Traktor’s territory could spur Native Instruments to innovate even further, ensuring that Traktor remains a competitive choice. Traktor has always been known for its customisability and its unique features, such as the Remix Decks and Stem Decks, which offer DJs a lot of creative freedom. With Serato now also vying for the same users, Native Instruments might be motivated to enhance these capabilities or introduce new ones to maintain their appeal.

What’s Next for the DJ Software Landscape?

The DJ software world is clearly in a state of change, with key players making moves to capture more of the market. For Traktor enthusiasts, this could mean exciting updates and new features are on the horizon as Native Instruments responds to the increasing competition. And for the broader DJ community, the push towards more versatile, cross-compatible equipment and software is likely to continue, which can only be a good thing for those looking for the best tools to express their musical creativity.

Hi, my name is Nathan, I am 41. Cornish born and bred. Hailing from St Ives/Hayle. Currently living near Camborne. I run Inception Events which focuses on bringing the deep/progressive/melodic house and techno to the Cornish masses - with focus on artists from labels such as Anjunabeats, Anjunadeep, Afterlife, Armada music, Upperground etc.

I spent my teenage years growing up in St Ives where I first started learning to mix in friends' bedrooms and garden sheds on the worst 80’s belt-driven Soundlabs which had more wobble than a buckled BMX wheel - working my way through the analogue era, right up until the digital take over.

A single dad to three children for many years meant my dreams of being a DJ were restricted to the spare room, friends parties and the odd club night. As they grew up (and with years of practising behind me), I decided to pick up where I left off. I enrolled myself on a college course for music production, where I gained the confidence to apply myself and that is when Inception Events was born!

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

I have been extremely fortunate this past year to have played on some incredible lineups. New Years Eve was a dream come true, where I played Tranz@ction VS Hindsight alongside childhood idols - Mark EG, mZone, Lab4, Lisa Pin-up & Nick The Kid.

I attended the very first HTE DJ retreat for music production gaining valuable knowledge and understanding thanks to my mentor Nick Coles. This resulted in our track “Concentr8” being released on HTE. And I fly out this week to Malta to represent HTE for Captured Festival 2024.

I played at Immunity festival in May, and have played for local brands Signal, 2Minds, Clear - all really sound chaps wanting to bring their A-games to each of their events. I have also just accepted a resident slot on TechnoPulse - awol radio.

My focus this year has really been on growing Inception Events. Finding DJs who share the love of the music, bringing them on board to play for Inception. I love to give everyone a chance, as that is what I believe keeps things fresh and exciting.

We are super stoked to bring Mia Aurora (Anjunadeep) down from London for our event at Strobe nightclub in Plymouth on 14th September. Alongside local legend Tom Chapman (Algorhythm). Get tickets here .

Stay humble. Help as many as you can achieve their dreams along the way. We all have to start somewhere! Just do you and enjoy doing it…. Comparison is the thief of joy!

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

As a teenager, I was captivated by the underground dance scene. Completely obsessed with the whole rave scene going on in the 90’s. I managed to sneak into Dreamscape ‘24 when I was just 14 years old - At the time, hard style, hard dance and techno were a huge influence in my taste for music. Drawing inspiration from many DJs around that time - fanatical for the likes of M-Zone, Mark EG and Uberdruck.

As times changed (and I got older), so did my timbre. I slowed my pace down and with it the BPMs. I ventured through Trance, Psytrance, right through to melodic techno, deep house, progressive where I find myself now. I will always retain a passion for each style as the music will forever have a place in my heart. Each telling a different story of my life.

Drawing inspiration in recent years, from artists like Tinlicker, Ben Bohmer, Artbat, Tale of Us, Vintage Culture, Miss Monique, Camlephat to name just a few. I enjoy going to events and festivals just to hear the lesser known and upcoming artists out there and often incorporate their music into my sets.

So, my mix selection was purely just a handful of some of my favourite tracks I have played out over the past year or so, which seem to get the crowds going. I am a firm believer of taking the listener on a melodic journey. I won’t fluff it up but will let the music speak for itself.

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

Hello again! It’s been about a year since I last put together a mix for you all. For those who don’t know me, I’m Trix, aka ‘Miss Trixsta’, and I run a local Drum and Bass brand called Raw Rotation. While Drum and Bass is my main focus, I do like to explore other genres as well. This time, I’m excited to share something a bit different - a Breakbeat mix!

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

This year has been quite a whirlwind for me. I left my job of 10 years after realising I couldn't advance the way I wanted. I then started a new role, only for the company to fold three months later. But now, I’ve finally landed a job that I’m genuinely happy with, so I've been pretty busy getting all those "adulting" tasks back in order. Despite the chaos, I’ve still made time for my music projects. I’ve played some amazing gigs, including a memorable night supporting the legendary Roni Size in Exeter - a true highlight, as he’s one of the artists who introduced me to underground music over 20 years ago. Coming up, I’ll be supporting LTJ Bukem, which is another gig I’m really looking forward to!

I've also had the pleasure of running some stages for TNT Promotions down in Zennor, which has been a lot of fun. There’s nothing quite like an all-night music event in a field! Speaking of festivals, I'm co-running the Drum and Bass area again this year with my good friend DJ Leroy, and it’s only a couple of weeks away now! Just have fun with it! If you're loving what you do, that's what really counts. Don’t stress about what others think or what they’re up to. Be authentic, be kind, and you’ll find your way to where you want to be.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

I’ve mentioned before how I like to blend two tracks together and let them flow in the mix. I’m not the type of DJ who crams 100 tracks into 30 minutes. My style is all about letting the music breathe. Over the years, I've drawn inspiration from old school legends like Marcus Intalex, DJ Randall, and Bryan Gee, as well as from newer artists. There’s always something fresh out there that keeps me inspired.

As I mentioned earlier, I’m sending you something a bit different this time! I'm super excited to share an hour-long Breakbeat mix that I recently played live for the ‘Say Nuffin’ brand, recorded straight from the club. Don’t let the soft, atmospheric intro fool you—this mix is packed with heavy drops, big blends, dirty basslines, and some killer vocal breakdowns. It was honestly so much fun to play. I’m a huge Breakbeat fan and love the technical challenges that come with mixing this genre. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed performing it live!

The most recent update of the well-established DJ software now includes stem separation and iZotope mastering technology features.

Native Instruments has recently unveiled the most recent iteration of its enduring DJ software, Traktor. This update introduces advanced stem separation technology, a novel maximiser driven by iZotope DSP, an integrated 16-step drum machine, and improved beat grids for enhanced precision when analyzing various tempos. Accompanying the new Maximiser, which draws on iZotope's renowned mastering capabilities, the stem separation in Traktor Pro 4 leverages technology from the popular RX plugin by the US tech leader. The Pattern Player serves as Traktor’s latest drum machine, featuring samples from renowned artists such as Rebekah, Luke Slater, Len Faki, Chris Liebing, and Dubfire. The 16-step sequencer synchronizes with your set’s tempo, enabling DJs to sequence dynamic patterns and percussion seamlessly.

In addition to the new features, the Traktor software continues to offer familiar elements such as Remix Decks, a wide variety of studio-quality effects, versatile EQ modes, support for Ableton Link, compatibility with timecode vinyl, key detection for harmonic mixing, and the ability to create smart playlists. I got into techno thanks to a friend in Germany sending over a mix of his and also the trance section in my record store had a really cool looking techno record and I played it and loved all 3 tunes.

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

My name is Louk, I am 39 and was born in Plymouth where I still live (after moving to Yorkshire for a year and Birmingham for a few years for Uni). I grew up listening to all sorts of music and going through that stage of listening to happy hardcore, drum n bass (shows like One In The Jungle on Radio 1), cheese/dance compilations that friends and family liked when younger. I wanted to produce music after hearing System F - Out Of The Blue one night when it was known as 'Out Of The Blue - Something To Blow Your Brains Out' on Judge Jules show, and learned the basics on an Amiga, a computer I still love and often play now. Apart from trance, I got into techno thanks to a friend in Germany sending over a mix of his and also the trance section in my record store had a really cool looking techno record and I played it and loved all 3 tunes. I pretty much play that now and have been to many trance and techno events across the world.

When I started making music, I was in my early teens and have been releasing music since 2003, Apart from my frequent record shopping in my school uniform on most Friday's after school, I used to go to Dance Academy and Premonition / Candystore and events like Hindsight and other events in the South West when I was legally not old enough to go but thankfully ID checks were far more lapse back then as I didn't have any! I also used to listen to local radio lots and in particular a show called Club 97 on Plymouth Sound really had some awesome music on a weekly basis from DJs I'd mostly go on to play alongside and work with as I got older.

This was a welcome and hugely dominating influence on my sound as most of my school friends would go to under 18s cheese nights and I was fortunate to go and hear the likes of Mark EG and M-Zone and many others on a monthly basis at a time when the music I loved was at its peak and you could go into a record shop like Bigga / Plain Grooves and out of 30 records would want to buy 29 of them!

I was writing for quite a few magazines and websites reviewing music and events and decided to have a go on the decks after mates said to do so and kept on my case. I am thankful to them as I've had some absolutely wonderful DJ gigs nationally and internationally, residencies and opportunities that have all come from something that was only intended to be a hobby to just get one record out there. Production wise I've released and remixed many tracks as Louk, but also as Cohesive, Hidden Identity, Lewis Gate (named after a low life who tried ripping one of my tracks off), Masters Of Chaos (with legends Noizy Boy & Jonez), Future Vision (Hard Trance), Digital Force (with legendary Plymouth DJ Steve Edwards who is a huge influence on my sound, he also DJd at my wedding), Boglin (with my good friend Blair making techno), 304 (with my good mate Scott for all things acid/ravey), R.B.N (some oldskool breakbeat and hardcore with my friend Graham) and more over the years. This also includes many collaborations with my good friend Nick The Kid, Busho (cornish hard trance ambassador), Brian Eddie (fellow Uni mate and legend), Joe-E and more over the years.

Have to say a very big shout to all the promoters who booked me at a time when I'd only been mixing a few months and my mixing was questionable at best on a good day!

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

After having many gigs and relentlessly producing and travelling in my 20s, I slowed down in my 30s. In the past year my alias for softer techno 'Hidden Identity' has managed to do well after releasing some tracks again, after a much needed studio break when my youngest daughter was born (she's 5 next month). I had built up some hype for the alias releasing on Mauro Picotto's Alchemy label and doing a podcast for him and also Kevin Saunderson's prestigious KMS label among others including remixing Mark EG for Yin Yang. This year after not releasing anything for a few years I had a new original come out called 'Outer Limits' on longstanding legendary label Hooj Choons and only yesterday at the time of writing this, a remix I produced five years ago for fun of Jam & Spoon's 1993 classic 'Follow Me' (such a track!!) has come out on Dutch label Black Hole Recordings.

As for plans for the future, I no longer work full time in music, and after engineering and co-producing/co-writing over 300 tracks for many artists (which I am currently trying to update Discogs about), I don't even have a studio set up here. I have loaned most of my studio equipment out to a good friend who is doing his university studies, and another friend I collaborated with on some tracks. When I do get a chance to make music here (purely on my laptop at the moment) I go to my friends to tidy the tracks using my equipment but that's really rare lately as by day I am a software developer for a retail chain. This means I have the luxury of being really selective with gigs and the ones that I do accept are normally very worthwhile. Ones coming up I am looking forward to including playing at the Depo on 17th August with Will Atkinson, and Hindsight's Birthday in November but of late I'd rather go support friends who are up and coming play gigs and spend time with the family and chill out when I am not working (apart from pub visits, which are still often despite being tee total for 8 months now).

By the time this will have been published, I will have spent a weekend teaching at the HTE retreat in Devon alongside M-Zone, Nick The Kid, Lab 4, this is a good experience for budding producers to learn and I know many who have gone on the previous editions who have learned lots. Production wise, not sure what will happen in the future, there are still a couple target labels I would like to try and release music on but we'll see. I'd also like to do an official remix of Depeche Mode, still the best band ever who I also listen to daily.

...don't listen to all the career advice you are given.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

Haha, could gladly go on for hours to inspire, but I'd say that there are lots of very good, friendly and helpful people out there. Most of the opportunities I have had have been through luck and sending an e-mail out of nowhere and with the mindset that the worst that can happen is the other person / night / label can say no! If there is a producer who you buy a track from and like and play it out, let them know / reach out. If there's a DJ who plays music you like and make, when you have music out there get in touch and send them a copy.

I'd say also protect your intellectual property and most importantly if you are a producer who writes songs and performs on your own music then join the PRS, MCPS, PPL, Musicians Union, IAFAR. All worthwhile organisations that have really helped over the years and are good for helping you get the income you are owed for your music.

Also this sounds very Johnny Rotten, but don't listen to all the career advice you are given. My music GCSE teacher at school told me I'd never amount to anything musically unless I played in an orchestra and that electronic music had no value. The biggest success story musically from my year is a friend at school didn't even do GCSE music and has had three number one albums in the UK charts. Big shout out to Woody!

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

I like listening to all sorts of music in the week, due to the rights expiring on lots of the older tracks I like most aren't on spotify (or even youtube!) so I built a server that randomly plays over 500 tracks daily that I can listen to when I'm not listening to bands, radio and other mixes. DJ style wise in the techno world definitely has a lot of inspiration from Dax J, Paul Damage (both absolutely awesome and high octane and holds no barred energy wise), CJ Bolland, Luke McMillan/DJ The Producer, Andreas Kraemer, Ribbz, Mach One and more for the techno, and of course Mark EG and M-Zone for their energy and tune selection. Steve Edwards for his faultless tune selection and fact we are always sending links to each other of music we like still years on! Also really like Pete Cannon, top bloke, excellent DJ and amazing producer, and Harrison BDP for some awesome chilled out music and the DJs I grew up listening to locally on Plymouth Sound. I still listen to old tapepacks and rave packs trying to find the tunes I grew up listening to, and know many other music obsessives are exactly the same so that always has an influence. I could find a tune from a tape from 20 years ago and then go out to play it for 6 months solid.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

I know you guys asked for a 60 min mix but I went a little bit longer and did a mix you can fit on a CD. I still love listening to them when out and about. I kept everything techno (with a couple of tech trance bits in there) including 4 of my own productions some of which were mentioned above, a load of recent bandcamp/juno purchases, some promos I love, and I'd say half the mix contains lots of older techno favourites and some old 90s bits on Rising High etc. I also threw in a track by Scott Mac that really does the damage still. Hi, I'm BUFS and I am a Dj and Producer who plays Jackin Chicago house. Although that's the main genre, I also dip in to the more deep and sometimes more techy side of Jackin, and sometimes just all out house music.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

I would have to say the highlights of the past year was playing up in Manchester for an event called "Unpolished people". They had an OG underground house music legend Jason Hodges headlining, and I had the privilege of taking over from him. Another highlight would be the birth of "Housewerk". Our own event that's ran by Alfie Crook, Johny5 and myself. The opener was a great night with some awesome music and a great turnout, so I'm extremely happy it's up and running. We are hoping to keep this going quite regularly, so if you see the name "housewerk" pop up, make sure you get there for some great House Music! I'm also continuing to produce stuff (albeit slowly) and have a few releases signed and due out at some point this year, one on Reason 2 funk records and one on Big speaker music. Both of which I'm extremely happy to be releasing on! I also have a remix of one of Philly Phil's tracks coming soon on Jump Beat records. He's a production machine so I was really chuffed when he asked me to do a remix of one of his tunes!

Well this is probably more from a production standpoint, but the best quote that I heard recently was from a Guy called Jon Anthony , the owner of Nine Sixteen Muzic. He said:

"Make & Create WHATEVER you want & HOWEVER you want because you’re not going to be able to please everyone in this industry…. “NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO LIKE WHAT YOU’RE COOKING UP, AND THAT’S OK! YOU SHOULDN’T EXPECT TO FEED EVERYONE ANYWAYS!"

This really resonates with me and I think about it whenever I try and make a track or make a track selection for a set. Stay true to what you like!

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

From a DJ point of view I have to say its Derrick Carter, Phil weeks, DJ Sneak and DJ Heather. They are the leaders of the genre which I love and I've listened to their mixes for decades now. Legends of the game! Gotta give daft punk a mention too, a life long fav! Production wise there's so many to mention, but id have to say overall my favourite producer is Chemars. Hes an absolute machine man, he releases about 3 tracks a week and they are all fire! Seriously check out his back catalogue, its a treasure trove!

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

Well I always like to play sets of tracks that are exciting me at that time, so these are all relatively new tracks released over the last few months. I Just love music that creates a really "feel good" atmosphere, to see smiles on the dancefloor, So I've tried to capture that in the selection. I've tried to give a snapshot of my style on an hour , so tried to keep it pumping and funky with lots of strings and disco hits in there. Also, funky basslines are a MUST!! I thought it would be fitting to throw one of my own productions in there so I finished off with "Take me away". I hope you enjoy it!

Hi my name is DJ Phoenix Fox, I've been playing since lockdown! My sound is has Euphoric elements, with tribal influence, with a soft soulful edge and some bass, I am multi genre... and keep it high energy!

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Highlight of last year.. I have wanted to be looking after myself and now created a retreat called Namaste Hybrid retreat!!! In where you look after yourself self along side having fun , where I do like to play more ethnic non commercial music! This was a highlight of last year.

Also Had guest DJ's down from Birmingham , Lord Byron & IKO in the summer! Big night that was, also New Year's Eve @ The Dead Famous was also a belter! And had the pleasure of supporting Afroqoiu at the Dead Famou Liquor Lounge in Newquay.

For the future I have joined forces with Lady Luce and we are going all house , disco and funk with our DJ brand, Full Frontal, concept we go front to front with our bangers! Bit of fun and sassy ness in the title! As Phoenix fox I will be playing at Paradhis retreat.. along side Afroqoui, Morcheeba & Hang Massive. Also Bestival Festival. Have a few nights at the Dead Famous along side Resident DJ's of Soul Fusion Festival ( based in Portugal) , KJ & Babs Presents being the guest DJ's of the Night, really looking forwards to supporting them! A number of Sunday Fundays booked in the secret Garden Newquay. Amongst other Private Party's & small venues.

Music is something to bring people together and undoubtedly is an incredible natural high and privilege to play to a crowd ! Nothing like that feeling! Pure endorphins.

Through the years many DJ's, earliest inspiration... Dave Pearce & Pete Tong. Latest, Mozebo (South African) now resides in Berlin. Lord Byron, Franky Wah and Hannah Wants, DJ Paulette. Tin Licker, Ben Bohmer. A very mixed bag of styles and I love it all!

Ok so... it might seem a random selection to some but I'm just so eclectic and wanted to really show my retreat side off this time although I've tried to incorporate some bouncier moments.. I have more than one style! Depends where I'm playing and who I am playing too! I will always pull something new out of the bag as love listening to new artists and always hungry for the new sound!

Hello we are husband and wife DJ duo Sophia & Paul Lowndes aka Soapi & Fondoo. Soph's style is more funky, electro, bass house style and Paul's is progressive, tech and old skool house vibes. When we play together, we cover everything from progressive, trance, house, electro, techno, hard dance, breaks and drum & bass. We love big bass lines, funky beats, lots of remixes and bootlegs... Everyone loves a sing-a-long! We just love music, so you will often find a rock n roll/RnB/garage re-work in one of our sets.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Winning the Fatboy Slim All back to Minehead DJ competition! Norm hand picked our mix out of the top three and chose us to open up the centre stage on Friday, at his All Back to Minehead Weekender at Butlins. We were featured on South Devon Radio, booked for the wonderful Magic Hat Stand (it was their last event in The Cavern, Exeter) That club holds many memories. We just played at Immunity Festival too, on the Escape stage (First Festival of the year!) and all three gigs just went off!

I'm hoping the future holds more gigs outside of the South West, some international gigs would be nice.

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

So I've been DJing now for around 20+ years from bedroom to clubs etc. I like to play a variety of music ranging from deep, soulful house to disco, disco house and house belters! I also make music in those genres too!

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Last year has to be playing Rock Oyster festival, and my gigs in Plymouth with my residency at Sonar! I'm hoping the future holds more gigs outside of the South West, some international gigs would be nice. I've also started a new residency with a brand called sunset social club who put on cool events over the South West, and the summer is looking pretty stacked so far!

Just keep practicing, get networking and making yourself familiar with brands that you would like to play at. Everyone is a DJ these days, but talent will shine. Also, be polite, manners cost nothing. Stay humble.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

I can't put my finger on any particular DJ that influences my DJ style, I kinda just go with the flow. Some DJ's im diggin atm though are Kirollus, Melvo Baptiste, Dan Shake and the classics of Louie Vega and Dave Lee always go well! Maybe a mixture of all of those!

So the mix is based around the tunes I'd play to get the party started. Some real funky numbers! I've tried to include a lot of my favourite up and comers/new-ish that people should be looking out for, such as Boogietraxx, BDK and Bobby Analogue for example, as well as some more established artists such as wh0 and LF System.

After two sold out back to back years, Electric Bay Festival returns to Torre Abbey Meadows, Torquay for its third edition on Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th July 2024.

This unique open air dance music festival brings something totally new to the iconic English Riviera, with the stunning Torre Abbey Meadows hosting two days of premium dance music and production. Recent years have seen acts like Carl Cox, Chase & Status, Pendulum headline the festival, and we’re thrilled to once again have a stacked line-up of huge names making the journey to Torquay for Electric Bay.

I'm Vic, my DJ name is Lady Vix and I like to think of myself as a clubber first and a DJ second. I started clubbing in around 2003, where I went to events such as the Tidy Weekenders, as well as the legendary Dance Academy in Plymouth. I enjoy playing a variety of genres - house, trance, hard house and hard trance. Hard house nights are amazing because I love the music, but equally because of the good vibes, the fun, and the energy.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Last year (2023) was incredible for me - a massive highlight was playing at the Hard Trance Europe Weekender. I also played on New Years Eve at Hindsight Vs Tranzaction at Strobe in Plymouth. It's been really exciting to see my name on lineups with DJ's I've admired for years.

I played an impromptu pool party set at Unity in the Sun festival in Corfu last year - and I am now officially on the lineup for Unity in May this year where I will be playing uplifting but stomping hard house. You can also catch me playing disco house at Studio 84 at Strobe nightclub in June.

My favourite type of events to play are private parties for friends, as I get to play for hours and get fully in the flow (my record is over 10 hours!). I tend to let my bookings happen organically, so I don't know where this year will take me. I have lots of mixes on my DJLadyVix Soundcloud page and this year my aim is to upload new mixes to Soundcloud more regularly.

I would describe this mix as fun, varied, and plenty of vocals but with a good driving stompy beat.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

I've owned turntables and collected vinyl for years; however I only actually learned how to mix over lockdown. I am part of a group of DJ's and clubbers called The Good Vibe Tribe and it was because of this supportive group of friends that I found the confidence to play in front of others. Surround yourself with the kind of people who lift you up, not bring you down. Real friends don't care if you mess up. However my ultimate tip is to have fun! It is an absolute privilege to be allowed to pick the soundtrack so someone's night out, and you have to enjoy the tracks that you are playing. Although saying that, when I'm behind the decks I have to tone my dancing down a little because I like the music a bit TOO much! The clubber in me isn't ever far from the surface.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

There's so many DJ's I love watching. I have been a fan of Lisa Pin-Up since I first started going clubbing because of the way she connects with the crowd and treats everyone as an individual. I've always loved Nick Coles' commitment to keeping the South West hard trance scene exciting and active. I love how authentic Amber D is and how she always picks amazing tracks from the wide variety of genres she plays. However, my favourite is Rob Tissera, because he embodies all of the best qualities in a DJ - good track selection, varied genres, he loves the music, and he connects with the crowd. Plus what he has done for the clubbing scene is inspiring. Go and read his book to find out more; in fact take the time to educate yourself as much as you can about the history of the clubbing/rave scene. We all need to respect the roots of the scene and have gratitude for what we enjoy today - being able to enjoy dancing to music in a safe space where everyone gets along.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

My aim was to create a hard house warm up set that feels like it’s in that sweet spot between house and hard house; where it has enough energy to dance to, but isn’t too full on if you're sat down or if hard house isn't normally your thing. There's a good variation of tracks in the mix, some well known, some less so. I would describe this mix as fun, varied, and plenty of vocals but with a good driving stompy beat.

Hi my name is Owen Price and I’m a DJ/Producer from Plymouth. For those who don’t know my sound I am very baseline driven, I love a real rumble baseline with some high energy synths and a layer of glitchy percussion sat behind it all, this is my sound I dig deep for.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

My highlights of the past year would include becoming a resident in the south west biggest house and techno party Casa events, they have provided with the best opportunities and set me up for success, I am very much looking forward to heading back out to Ibiza in June to lay down my sound once again!

Something positive I would give to any aspiring DJs is to work hard and stay consistent because it’s one hell of a journey meeting the biggest artists in the world! However my number one rule (in my instagram bio) HAVE FUN! If you’re not having fun, you’re not in the right industry.

My biggest all time artist would have to be the one and only Michael Bibi, I have been a fan boy since day dot…. However smaller artists I really thrive from would be; wheats, luuk van dijk, jamback and Rossi.

John 00 Fleming is an artist who has achieved international success in a career spanning over 30 years without dishonoring his musical essence or fans. A DJ who's known for his music knowledge a proven musical pioneer and a leader.

His career started at the age of 15 playing his part in the exploding UK rave scene DJing and promoting events across the South Coast that soon got the attention of the London underground scene resulting in multiple residencies that instantly put him in the sights of the world music media and major record labels opening the doors to his international career.

John went on to mix and compile 40+ DJ mix compilations for labels such as Virgin Telstar Sony and Universal that secured his rise to the top Gold discs line on his studio walls celebrating over 10 million sales along with the world-leading music store Beatport making John the artist of the month acknowledging his investment loyally and dedication to the electronic scene.

His ability to constantly move forward musically has kept him on the cutting-edge frontline of the electronic world throughout his career gaining respect from peers along with building a cult following as he continues to break boundaries of electronic music and genres making him one of the most unique DJ’s on this planet seeing him perform across multiple genres events yet keeping his integrity intact with what fans call ‘The JOOF Sound’. In Review: Sonar Presents Michael Gray At The Treasury Plymouth

Sonar Events brought the vibrant energy of the South West's nightlife scene to life on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at The Treasury in Plymouth.

My expectations were high for Sonar's first major event of 2024, and they delivered an unforgettable night of music and excitement.

The atmosphere at The Treasury was warm and welcoming, with a diverse audience of all ages. It was encouraging to see younger people participating in the festivities, even if they may have been unfamiliar with the headliner, Michael Gray. The venue, despite its size, was buzzing and appeared to be full, contributing to the evening's electric vibe.

Despite the large crowd, the event was well organised, with friendly staff ensuring a smooth entry and service. A special mention goes to Lauren (at least that is what she was logged in as on the till; sorry if this was not you), who seemed to serve me whenever I ventured to the tiny, ovecrowed bar and went above and beyond to make sure everyone was served quickly. A shoutout also goes to the door staff, whose welcoming demeanour set a positive tone for the night.

The resident Sonar DJ lineup, which included Andy Bacon, Hayley Blue, Reece Johnson, Jack Stevens, and Jamie Webb, expertly set the tone for the evening, gradually increasing energy as the night progressed. Michael Gray's arrival was met with great anticipation, and he did not disappoint. I want to shout out Reece Johnson, who came on stage after the headline act. Sorry for not staying for your entire set, mate, but duty called; I needed my kebab fix and some well-deserved rest for my dancing feet!

As a longtime Michael Gray fan, I had high expectations for his set, which he far exceeded. His seamless blend of hits and remixes had the audience on their feet and fully engaged in the music. Personal highlight: capturing a quick selfie with the man himself.

While the overall experience was fantastic, the only minor flaw was the sound system, which was extremely bass-heavy and loud. It felt like quality was sacrificed for volume. However, this minor hiccup had little effect on the audience's enthusiasm. However, my old man's ears were a little sore!

In conclusion, Sonar's event was a resounding success, providing a night of nonstop entertainment and infectious music. Sonar remains a driving force in the South West club scene, with upcoming events including a Bank Holiday Special and appearances by renowned DJs such as Jon Pleased Wimmin, Brandon Block, and Alex P.

For those who are unfamiliar, my name is DJ BenG (real name Ben Holtam), and I am a DJ from Looe, Cornwall, who specialises in soulful, funky house with a lot of disco rhythms. What's my sound like? I want to create mixes that will make you want to get up and dance. The tracks combine soulful vocals, chunky basslines, and infectious grooves that seep into your body. I took great care in selecting and blending songs that will keep your head nodding and toes tapping, whether you are at home or out at a club or bar. The vibe is funky, soulful house with a dash of classic disco. It is upbeat music designed to lift your spirits and get you moving.

Remember, not everyone makes it, and that is okay.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

Little South has asked me what advice I would give to any aspiring DJs or producers out there, so I will leave you with these words: "Do not look too far ahead, but set yourself a goal of who or what you want to be musically and break down what it would take to become that person. Then, every day, do something to move you forward and closer. Remember, not everyone makes it, and that is okay. Just be yourself and enjoy what you are doing. If people like it, that is great; if not, at least you are being yourself."

Hi and thanks for having me back with a Little South podcast, it’s been a while and for those who don’t me I’m Jay Sundance. Some of you who know me will also know I produce under to alter egos, Dj Sundance and Run Flat. I’ve been a dj in Cornwall and further afield for the past 25 years and started off way back when there were no mp3’s!

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

This past year has seen my tracks hit 40 million tiktok streams and several BBC music introducing plays. Also my record label Sundance Studio Recordings was born last year. I needed my own official label to release music on because I was fed up with the lack of royalties streaming sites pay independent artists and the unfair percentages record labels take. Please take a moment to think about supporting independent artists and buying your tracks from time to time. It’s yours forever, it will never get removed from your playlist and you’ve helped keep an artist eating. If you’d like to check out the label please visit my website as a reward there are a few tracks I’ve made available for free download and if you so feel like supporting there are others you can purchase.

Towards the end of last year I set up a new dance event, FAB (Frequency and Bass) our launch party was Dec 6 ^th last year and we sold out. FAB is a new exciting uplifting vibe in dance music. We create style and groove and appeal to the more mature clubber. Come join us in this intimate and exclusive party and grow with us at our next event which will be April 6 ^th at The Front Room Bar kitchen Penzance 8pm to 1am - Get tickets here . In this mix I’ve created for little south are some of the tracks I love to play out live at FAB. You can also catch me playing at Wetback Cowboy 2 party March 30 ^th with a peak 3am set, such a good fun party.

You can’t just be a dj now, create something that only you do and no one else.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

As far as I’m concerned if you want to make it as a pro dj these days, and let’s face it you can teach a monkey to dj in 10 mins with today’s equipment and the market is totally over saturated with every one and their nan who now think they are dj’s, you need something to make yourself stand out from that crowd. This is why it’s essential to get into producing, and getting your music out there. Leant to create a live performance when you’re doing live gigs. Find new skills that will help you perform and give yourself the edge over the rest. Play live instruments or have a keyboard on stage with you. You can’t just be a dj now, create something that only you do and no one else. Then get good at marketing and use film and vision to get a following. Get these things right and you’ll get more interest and bookings. Also being able to diversify your dj style will also help, so if you can play different styles of house, nu disco, some techno, maybe some classic trance, etc you’ll be able to find more work.

We had a fantastic year of growth last year with the one of the main highlights being us performing at Boardmasters on the iconic ‘the point’ stage. We also had the amazing opportunity of playing a huge sold out Casa Corithian & supporting the likes of Ben Hemsley, Danny Howard and more throughout the year. Moving forward we are really focusing on production and getting our music and our sound out to the masses. Looking forward to seeing what 2024 brings.

Summer Masked Ball Gets Cancelled

Event organisers have withdrawn their application after they faced objections from neighbours.

The organisers of the Masked Ball had been eagerly scouting for an ideal location near Truro to host the upcoming summer edition of their highly anticipated events. Unfortunately, their initial choice of a site in Playing Place, on the outskirts of Truro in Cornwall, has been met with numerous objections at event licensing meetings, leading to the decision to no longer consider it. With time ticking away, the team behind the Masked Ball has expressed that there is insufficient time to explore alternative venues for this year's Summer Masked Ball. It is important to note, however, that this change of plans has no impact on the beloved Halloween Masked Ball, traditionally held at Flambards theme park in Helston every October.

An event organiser is reported to have said: ""We are withdrawing from this application in light of the many objections from residents on the estate. We feel that whilst we have attempted to reach an agreement with the residents to mitigate their concerns with reasonable conditions, we have been unable to reach a resolution that would allow this type of event to deliver to the expectations of the attendees. In light of this we wish to withdraw the application and we will look forward to working with the estate owners and residents to find a suitable time and type of event that will operate successfully at the venue in the future."

In a detailed letter addressed to the council's licensing department, several concerned residents who are members of the local community group expressed their growing apprehensions regarding the potential issue of ball-goers being near their properties, highlighting the urgent need for effective measures to address this problem.

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

I'm a resident for the biggest house and techno event in the South West, Casa. Based in Plymouth you'll hear me playing strictly underground groove and bassy beats.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Playing at the old warehouse building on boxing day was pretty special. Supporting Ben Hemsley, Hannah Liang and Skream was also way up there. Of course being crowned podcast mix of 2023 with you guys was such a lovely surprise! Always have so much in the pipe line but it has to be the Live at Argyle event in May, that's going to be a big one!

Ha no surprise the tracks in this mix are tech, underground, full of groove and bass driven.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

Don't put too much pressure on yourself and most importantly just enjoy the journey. Celebrate all the wins no matter how small or big they are.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

There have been so many over the years more recently has to be James Hype and Tita Lau. Saw them both play in Ibiza and I was in such awe. Martin Ikin's and Piero Pirupa productions are always a go.

Ha no surprise the tracks in this mix are tech, underground, full of groove and bass driven. Typical of what you hear me play in the club. This is definitely one for the pres, you'll be itching for the weekend and the dance floor.

Hi, my name is Emma Bond aka Lady Embrace. I am a DJ/Producer born in UK but lived for 34yrs in Spain near Marbella and I have 24 years experience in DJing on all formats from Vinyl to Traktor timecodes.

I have been blessed and fortunate to play for some of the best & incredible promotors, venues & supported some great names on the DJ scene. To name a few including Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, Café del Mar & SISU.

I always try to maintain my signature style genre by creating my own unique rolling phatt basslines, thundering kicks & Old Skool riffs & vocals. I mix my sets up a lot depending on the crowd & always play “off the cuff” never a prepared set, I love to challenge myself! My genres include, Old Skool, Breakbeat, Techno & Deep Tech which made it a very difficult decision which to send to you.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

This year has been a blast! I was fortunate enough to play some fantastic gigs, Orbital Gathering, FrendZy & I play a lot of charity gigs for TNT Promotions so have done a few of those including supporting Hixxy, Cally & Juice & Vibez in summer this year which was awesome fun! This year I have similar gigs planned & hopefully some of the other well-known household names will book me too. I love a good Rave in a field with incredible Cornish sea views & sunsets.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

I have taught and advised a few up & coming DJs in the past, currently I have a 15yr old lad who has an incredible natural ear & ability to learn very quickly & is doing B2B with me occasionally but has a fantastic future in the Music scene! My students in Spain all have residencies in various clubs & venues in the Marbella area so my advice would be to fine tune the ear & “practice practice practice,” find your genre, stay true to it and keep pushing. You have to earn your place, there’s no glory in riding shirt tails!

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

The Prodigy are absolute Pioneering Legends. Carl Cox who is the friendliest, humblest & kindest guy you could ever meet. His insane skills on the decks and style with cuts, bass drops & filter tricks is who I based my style on from the start. Adam Beyer & Umek both great producers & DJS and I use a lot of Drumcode & Defected tracks. My bug bear is big named DJs playing with decks clearly off or a pre-recorded set! Insult to the industry!

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

In this set I have used a mix of well known artists in remix form to ease the ear into the mix. Then it just gets bassier as it progresses. I have used names such as Four Tet, Adam Beyer, The Goodfellas with Disclosure, my own remix of Café del Mar, Stereo Express, riffs of Renegade Master, JDR, Hosh, Nosk, Josh Butler, Creeds in a Charlotte de Witte remix. Glastonbury 2024 is set to feature an impressive lineup of A-list artists, with Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA taking the spotlight as headliners. The festival, scheduled for June 26-30, will also showcase a diverse supporting lineup including talents like Little Simz, LCD Soundsystem, Burna Boy, and Shania Twain in the revered "legend" slot.

Coldplay, a favorite of Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, has a longstanding history with the festival. They are the first act to headline the Pyramid stage five times, starting with their debut performance in 2002. Despite having only one album at the time, Coldplay quickly rose to prominence in the pop-rock scene. Over the years, they have returned to headline in 2005, 2011, and 2016. In 2021, the band delivered a livestreamed performance on the empty Pyramid stage field after the festival was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Just WOW, with all the amazing DJs you feature over the course of the year that is something that I never expected. Thank you so so much!

Your mix was hugely popular with our audience - talk us through the tracks you chose to include.

I just love them. It's the vocals along with the riff patterns of the synth and it's hard not to like those hard rolling bass lines. These tracks always get me going so I couldn't not put them together in the mix. I still play some of them in my sets now, they always get the crowd going. Weapons.

2024 is going to be a big year for me personally...

This would probably be a good time to shout out those that have supported you.

First has to be my Casa family supporting me from day one. Big love goes to my mates and all of you who come to dance to my sets and listen to my mixes, you're all just delicious and I appreciate every single one of you. The venues I've played at and all the bookings I've had along the way. I could go on but I won't haha.

What do you have planned for 2024?

2024 is going to be a big year for me personally, as well as seeing some of my music being released, very exciting. Playing at the Live at Argyle event in May will definitely be a highlight of the year.

With my own release schedule growing into the new year I’m excited to see where this can get me.

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

Yes team! I’m Jamie Miller a DJ + Producer from Plymouth I run my own brand ‘PAZZO Music’ which caters for the more underground Tech House sound - think rolling percussive drums with deep basslines, constant grooves to keep the dance floor moving, that’s where my heart lies! I have been luckily enough to share my music with a whole host of events and festivals across the South-West during this time.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

2023 for me gave me time to really push on in the studio, dialling in my sound and sharing my music with the world. I managed to secure some of my goal labels and started to gain real support from some of the industries top names such as Manda Moor, Marco Carola, Yaya Tamango and many more, this has led to my music been played across global venues. I threw a couple of parties but pushing into 2024 I will begin to accept demos for PAZZO and give back to the community. I want to give the opportunity and the platform for other producers to be able to release on and form a real brand identity. With my own release schedule growing into the new year I’m excited to see where this can get me.

Just be yourself, get your face in the picture and don’t be afraid to introduce yourself! Everyone has to start somewhere and I know it can be overwhelming but enjoy the journey, don’t compare your timeline to others and accept that times may get tough but you have to keep going!

In today’s world we h ave access to everyone on socials so meeting and messaging people couldn’t be easier. My inbox is always open and I’m always down to chat or lend advice if I can.

What artists have inspired your DJ style?

My DJ style will always be energy focused so I can keep the floor moving, I like to have control and be able to push and pull the mood when needed and have the chance to showcase my sound and hopefully inspire people with my music. I take great inspiration from artists such as Marco Carola, Neverdogs and Luciano having been to their shows personally the mark they leave on you after they’ve finished is unmatched - a true journey!

So here we have 60 minutes of grooves with a selection of music you may commonly find from me. Starting off quite stripped back and a bit slower and then increasing the energy and the bpms. I like to try and dig for my tracks I don’t like to play the same things that everyone else may be playing, I also play a lot of my own productions and productions from friends who share their music with me, so I hope you enjoy the journey and thank you for the invite!

I'm Ste Ellis I live in Cornwall but I am originally from North Wales. I started DJing in the early 90's playing Hardcore and Jungle. I play various types of music although my preferred type is Techno anything from raw, peak to hard! I love all of it!

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Highlights of the past year have been playing at the Wetback Events and being a Wetback DJ (Thank you Brett Wetback). I have also recently joined a local trance outfit 2MINDS who have released some fantastic music and played at Paul Clark's Bring The Noise. A huge thank you to Dan and Tracy for getting me involved.

Continuing with TECHNOPULSE alongside DJ CHOON bringing the best techno around and trying to help others with playing sets on online platforms has also been great this year with loads of new DJ's joining the group.

It’s been over 30 years since Alex Paterson lit the multi-coloured touchpaper on The Orb’s interstellar space odyssey, he continues to swerve, becoming his own tribute act by never standing still and preparing a cluster of fresh new projects. 2023 saw the release of Prism, the eighteenth Orb studio album that diving in to number 15 in the UK album charts - followed by extensive tours of the UK, Europe and the USA. Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

No worries, I guess I could sum myself up as DJ and Producer from the South West, originally from Hayle in Cornwall where I grew up although I now live in Plymouth. I’ve been DJing in clubs since I was 16 which was longer ago than I would like to recall! I play a multitude of genres but I am best known for dance music where I’ve played and been resident at some of the biggest brands for dance in the South West including the Dance Academy and Tranzaction.

At the risk of sounding cliché I don’t like to pigeon hole myself when it comes to music or my sound, music to me is either good or bad. You can catch me playing anything from house to trance to harder edged sounds. I love records with a lot of energy, a killer groove or a “slap you in the face” bassline. I’m not shy of a vocal either, you can’t beat standing on the dancefloor with your hands in the air singing along with everyone around you. Making those moments happen are what DJing is all about.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

2023 has been a fun year, there are a lot of highlights but I’d say the ones to note would be DJing at The Tidyland Weekender, bringing Tranzaction back to the South West, Cohesion events and the stand out shows at The Depo in Plymouth with Ben Nicky, Billy Gillies and more.

There are plenty of events lined up for the next 12 months already including Tranzaction returning to Plymouth for New Years Eve at Strobe Nightclub along with Cohesion at various venues across the South West. I’ve also been focussing on production over recent months and I have a number of new releases ready to launch so watch this space!

I’ve tried to put together a bit of a journey for the Little South listeners. This mix is 90 minutes spanning multiple genres, building from house through to my harder edged sounds. Dance music seems to have gone full circle, back to the early 2000’s when it comes to the trancier sounds out there at the moment, and hard house is making a come back. I have a lot of time for this, and both are reflected in this mix.

Prepare for the usual up tempo high energy bangers you’ve come to expect from me. I hope everyone enjoys. Turn it up!

My name is Jamie Webb and I am a resident for SONAR and also Tigermilk bar in Plymouth. my sound is full of energy I would say and if i had to put a name to it, it would be moody and sassy. I love powerful vocals and big chords and plenty of brass and string instruments thrown in for good measure. I play a mixture of disco and house but over the last 28 years as a DJ and Promoter I have varied my sound massively. Think that is part of maturing as a DJ. Knowing what you love and seeing what really works on the dancefloor.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Highlights of the past year have being part of amazing SONAR events supporting Fat Tony and the privilege of collaborating with Cultural Vibes. Cultural Vibes was my first step into rave and the club experience at a incredibly young age but it wasn’t an issue back in the day so long as your birth certificate looked ok corrected in pencil. So to be a part of my rave stories beginning was amazing. The future is looking very bright. I have started taking bookings for festivals next year and SONAR events are going from strength to strength as we found our niche with a party built solely around the vibe on the dancefloor. Going back to oldskool principles with the focus on the whole experience of sound, light and crowd energy and less focus on the DJ. I would say we aim for headliners who are party DJ’s rather than producer DJs. The end of the day we all just want to have a fantastic time.

Stick to your sound that you are passionate about...

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

I would say to future artists that this is an incredibly tough industry to succeed in. I have been fortunate to see right at the top of the game playing with now household names like Calvin Harris, Pete Tong, Craig Charles, Zane Lowe and Artwork to name some of my favourites. But like any journey there are highs and lows so just remember to accept the tough times and keep going and keep your integrity. Stick to your sound that you are passionate about as going with trends means you are in favour one minute and out of favour the next. Main thing as well is have fun. That was how this scene was built out of joy and connection. If you lose that you will begin to fall out of love with it all.

So firstly thank you Little South for the invitation to put to the mix together. This mix is house driven from a lot of producers who I look to for inspiration I think full of all the energy and joy I love to bring to the dancefloor from my sets and I hope people enjoy it as much as the roast and glass of wine I had while making it.

Hello. Vincent Vega here. I am a turntablist/DJ/ producer and frequent the genres of Jungle, DnB, HipHop and House Music. I have been active since the early 90s rave days and enjoy all DJ cultures.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Highlights of this year for me have been supporting Souls of Mischief, The Pharcyde and Slum Village in the 50th anniversary of HipHop celebrations as House of Turntablism and also the Incredible General Levy with Noise Pollution. It’s not every year such names across such genres reach the shores of Cornwall and to be a part of it all especially on HipHop’s 50th with my love for turntablism has made this year most excellent indeed. I still have an as yet unannounced bucket list show coming this year so watch this space! The Masked Ball is also just around the corner and you can catch me representing the mighty Noise Pollution once again on the same stage as super headliner Shy FX. Next year will see more HipHop shows as House of Turntablism and jungle with Noise Pollution while also focusing on production and work with brilliant local business Amplify in music production and DJ tuition across the South West.

The monitor speaker was only inches away from the CDJs and that’s how I like it...

This warm up set was unplanned (unlike some of my sets) and all I really did was gather around 30 tunes and put them in a folder. Because I was on warm up duties I didn’t want to go too heavy too quickly so decided on some classic liquid for openers and then built into some newer heavier beats. The monitor speaker was only inches away from the CDJs and that’s how I like it for performing turntablism, blending and chopping. Got to say big up the crowd at this one also. They were on point! When it comes to inspiring others I would push to maybe broaden your horizons. Cornwall will not take you to a career in DJing. You definitely need to move to somewhere with a big club scene. I’m not saying Cornwall hasn’t got a good club and music scene, I just feel if you lived in London, Bristol or Leeds etc, you would have so many more avenues to pursue.

Pet Shop Boys 'West End Girls' Featured In Drake's New Track Without Permission

Drake's 'All The Parties' Chorus Features Pet Shop Boys' Lyrics.

The band, Pet Shop Boys, has recently brought to light that Drake has used the chorus of their 1986 classic 'West End Girls' in his track 'All the Parties' without obtaining permission or giving proper credit. Pet Shop Boys expressed their surprise on X (formerly Twitter), stating that it was unexpected to hear Drake singing their chorus without any acknowledgment or official request.

Drake's 'All the Parties', featuring Chief Keef, includes a segment towards the end of the track where he can be heard singing the following lyrics: "In this 6ix side town, a dead end world / East End boys and West End girls, yeah / East End boys and West End girls, ayy."

The song 'All the Parties' is part of Drake's eighth studio album, 'For All the Dogs', which was released on 6th October.

The Perfect Mix - Does It Matter?

The art of moving from one record to another has never been easier to achieve thanks to tech.

For anyone that has used turntables to beat match between records will understand the skill required to keep things playing nicely. The development of CDJs and DJ controllers that offer precise BPM readings it has never been easier to keep records playing at the same speed. Setting the tracks off at the right cue point and maybe a nudge forward or back and then it is all about using the faders, EQ and effects. But with mixes now sounding near perfect thanks to tech, are we losing that imperfection that kept things sounding real?

BenG says "The perfect mix is often considered the holy grail for both DJs and dance floor enthusiasts. However, its perfection is not only subjective to the listener but also to the specific moment in time. The same mix may not resonate as powerfully in a different setting or time."

Nobody wants to hear a galloping beat or tracks clashing, but there's something special when you hear the odd mix slightly drifting and being brought back into line. Less obvious on a larger sound system but many of the headline DJs of the 90s and early 00s produced live mixes with the odd slippery mix.

Do we care about perfection? Is it critical that every mix is perfectly aligned? Is it more of a focus to select the right tracks and use technology to take away the chance of things going wrong such as sync? DJ Leroy says "The divisive sync option on one hand represents a step forward in technological innovation, but takes you one step further away from the human element of manually beat matching by ear. There is a place for both, and after all, the arts are subjective to the individual in the case of music, the listener."

Pat McGrath says you should always strive for perfection but it does not always turn out that way - "The advance in tech has only helped towards better and seamless mixes."

DJ Leroy thinks that the only criticism will be from fellow DJs rather than ravers enjoying the moment.

Thank you for having me back again!

For those that don't know me, I'm DJ Leroy, and I have been playing DNB in the South West and beyond for about 20 years. I love the full spectrum of Drum & Bass, and my sets often include a mixture of new upfront music mixed with older tunes, classics or anthems.

I was left in no doubt that the future of the Cornish DNB scene is well represented and has a very exciting future!

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

This latest offering is an eclectic mix of tunes I played recently at the infamous underground party in St Buryan, Cornwall, known as Frendzy. It was with enormous pleasure that I put together the DNB tent for the party alongside my good friend, Miss Trixsta. We showcased a broad range of Cornish talent, from 6pm-6am, and had an absolute blast! The area we ran was packed all night and the vibes were electric from start to finish!

Our artist rosta included new talents from Kernow alongside the OGs of the scene, and we came together as The Kernow Collective. The feedback from all involved was humbling, and it was by far and away my favourite party for a long long time! Huge respect due to everyone who made it such as good night, and a special thanks to Nigel Pengelly for asking us to do it. I was left in no doubt that the future of the Cornish DNB scene is well represented and has a very exciting future!

The next event in the calendar is Code Red:Legacy Part 3, which is a fundraiser for the Forever Days Cornwall Charity, which was set up by one of my very best friends, the late Jay Day. Our aim is to raise as much money as possible to directly benefit the Cancer Wards at Treliske Hospital as per his wishes. The event is Saturday 11th November, 9pm-3am at the Basement Bar, Newquay, and this time we are going back to our Code Red roots, and having a vinyl only night. It is going to be amazing!

My latest podcast mix is an hour of quick fire tracks which I played at Frendzy, culminating with the last tune which I played at 6am. "Pistols at Dawn", seemed appropriate as we signed off 12 hours of Drum and Bass to a stamina packed crowd of ravers at sunrise. God bless all the crazy Kernow raving gang, they are just built differently to any other crowd I've ever played to!

Ryan Yeo has been DJing for over 20 years. He is signed to DeluxX and has played at numerous festivals from Boardmasters to the Masked Ball, Nass, Rock Oyster Festival, Kindred Spirits and other venues and events across the UK. If it’s got that groove he’ll play it!

Finley has racked up over 80 million plays on Spotify......you read that right, over 80 million! Finley was born in Edinburgh and raised in Stockbridge before moving to London as a young child. He started making music from a very young age and started to put his first songs together while in Manchester as a teenager. Finley first signed with Polydor followed by Epic Records and at the same time with Spirit Songs/EMI publishing. He has had several managers over the years including the legendary Frank Gironda who takes care of both Neil Young and Joni Mitchell as well as Mazzy Star and Spiritualised. Since 2005 Finley has pretty much been self managed. Finley continues to make music and perform as a band and as a solo acoustic artist

My sound is anything house. From chilled beach to deep progressive, Afro soulful nu disco into tech house. I like any sound that evokes emotion whether that be happiness or pulls on the old heartstrings. I like music with soul and a nice vocal, but then also love dark and dirty techy beats. Music fills me with joy. When I DJ I feel free and happy, and if the crowd are feeling that with me too, well that’s the best feeling in the world.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

The highlight of the year for me is being on a line up with the legendary Fat Tony (Defected) with Sonar with whom I’m a resident DJ. But I’ve loved each and every gig and feel thoroughly grateful for the opportunities that have come my way! I’m excited for what next year brings.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

To aspiring DJs my best advice would be to never give up! Keep playing music that’s true to you and don’t deviate. I can think of nothing worse than playing music I don’t love. Continuously make good quality mixes and send out to as many promotors and radio stations as you can. Be prepared to work for free until you’re established. To aspiring females, no question it is still a male dominated industry, speak up if you’re being treated unfairly, don’t be afraid! You can be the best technical DJ playing the best tunes, but unless you’re likeable too you won’t get booked. So keep your feet on the ground, your ego in check and remember to have fun!

With this mix ‘tongue n groove’ I’ve used different variants, starting with some deep house moving into some jackin and disco, then onto some tech and Afro to keep it spicy. Hopefully this one will get people up off their feet and dancing.

Following on from the success of our first two parties we are excited to be bringing DJ Hybrid to The Attic. Hybrid is a jungle drum and bass producer and DJ who has been a fixture in the drum and bass scene for over a decade releasing music on some of the genre's most respected labels, including Ram Records, Born on Road, Jungle Cakes & Deep in the Jungle to name a few.

DJ Hybrid started making music in his late teens, inspired by the UK's thriving music scene and the sounds of early jungle and drum and bass. Over the years, he has honed his skills as a producer, drawing on a wide range of influences to create a signature sound that blends classic jungle breaks, deep basslines, and melodic hooks.

His high-energy DJ sets have taken him to clubs and festivals around the world such as Boomtown, Glastonbury and Let It Roll and he has toured internationally in US, Canada and Europe.

Whether he's playing a small intimate club like The Attic or a massive outdoor event, he always brings the same level of passion and dedication to his performances.

Today, DJ Hybrid is regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative producers in the drum and bass scene, and continues to push the boundaries of the genre with his music.

The man, the myth, the legend.

There’s a lot to be said for simply being yourself. Just ask Bez AKA Mark Berry, who’s forged a route to the heart of the nation simply by being himself, an Energizer Bunny indie icon who’s endured from the Happy Mondays heyday to winning Celebrity Big Brother. And let’s be honest, anyone who can survive – no strive – during the Happy Mondays heyday and is here to tell the story, boggle-eyed dancing and all, deserves our respect.

Let’s start with the facts.

Born in the 60s to a police detective father and raised in Salford, Bez was literally dragged on stage by school-friend Shaun Ryder to become part of the Happy Mondays for their debut live show at The Hacienda in 1980. Tripping on microdots (obviously), the pair immediately created a riot on and off stage, with Bez leaving quite the impression: not only did he shake his maraca so hard it left a wound on his hand, he impressed watching Factory Records’ boss Tony Wilson. “Tony Wilson said to Shaun, ‘Who’s that kid on stage with you? You’ve got to have him again,’ recalls Bez.” From that moment on, I’ve always been a Happy Monday.”

The band were at the forefront of the Madchester scene, combining the blissful energy of the emerging dance music and acid house scene with an indie ethos. Signed to Factory Records, Happy Mondays encapsulated everything great about Madchester from the jangly pop of The Smiths to the pioneering electronic vibes of New Order. And with ring-leader Shaun Ryder creating a low-slung sleazy dancefloor sound and Bez leading the party from the front, all rubber-limbed moves and boggle-eyed stares.

Bez has been a virtual ever-present: there through the band reforms, there in Happy Mondays off-shoot act Black Grape while he – somewhat improbably – added to his TV portfolio spanning BBC Two science shows, Pimp My Ride, the Crystal Maze, Dave comedy show Judge Romesh, Celebrity Juice and, erm, antiques. As well as his notorious CBB win in 2005, Bez recently starred on Bargain Hunt alongside Jarvis Cocker where, Bez being Bez, he became the first ever participant to get thrown off for bending the rules.

But that’s the immutable magic of Bez. The sheer unlikeliness of his career, the unpredictable way nature, the universe and Bez have intersected and unfolded to let Bez be his best Bez, allowing him to roam free across the decades, unfettered by conventions and trad ideas of growing up and the drudgery of 21st Century living, of having 2.4 children and knowing what a standard variable rate mortgage is. He’s Bez, the man who put the Mad into Madchester, an ever-green indie icon, a law unto himself.

And that’s still the case. Bez’s latest, and he might say greatest love, is bees. And juicing. And foraging, creating an off-grid, self-sufficient lifestyle right down to brewing his own beer and growing his own food. And reading – gosh, the man can read with everything from history to politics to the economy fair game. But life for Bez now is mainly bees, giving rise to the title of his autobiography should he write it: Bez - From E’s to bees.

Yet, he’s still the indie icon, the dancing loon, the friendly Peter Pan of indie, the fresh-faced (that’ll be the juicing) star of indie and Hacienda nights across the country, the genial host of UK-wide club night And On The Sixth Day God Created Manchester and regular globe-trotting DJ dates and TV appearances. And, while his hip might be a bit wonky from years of pogoing and freaky dancin’, he’s still the Happy Mondays indie metronome, touring the world with his partners in loose 4/4 time, once again proving he’s the bee’s knees, an undimmed, full voltage light still shining bright 40 years into his career: Bez just being Bez.

I’ve been playing out since the ripe old age of 9 years old and at a Myriad of event types. For the past 7 years or so I’ve been a resident with Dancership playing soulful, funky and very much vocal house. I like to have fun with my music and I’m not afraid to play a bit of ‘cheese’ if the crowd is leaning towards it.

...all about smiles, happy people and pure enjoyment...

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

I’ve been a little quiet this year due to day job commitments but ADE in Amsterdam is always a highlight for me, it’s great to go there and meet with like minded individuals from newbies over to get themselves out there to huge names in the business. Hangover sauna’s with Saison was an unexpected delight ha!

I played for HedKandi again in April which as always went off, Hedkandi was always a bit influence for me, all about smiles, happy people and pure enjoyment and to be a part of that is amazing. Moving forward it’s ADE as always and supporting the outstanding Dancership with Kings and Queens and the Lido events when possible.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

Do it because you love it, play your own style, do your own thing. It’s taken me 34 years to get where I am and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Just learn as you go.

Playing mainly daytime gigs this year it’s been more chilled so I decided to get in a few tracks that I would love to get out to an ‘after dark’ crowd. Lots of vocals as always.

Hello! I’m Trix aka Miss Trixsta. Firstly I want to say thank you for having me again. It’s been a while! I’m a Drum & Bass DJ from the Southwest, mixing all sub genres in my mixes. My general style of mixing is incorporating old and new tracks when I play out at clubs and festivals. My favorite is always the darker tunes, they have my heart for sure! I also love mixing Breakbeat, Dark Techno and Deep House… I love it all to be honest.

...I’m super happy to have been able to put a whole set together of all the darker vibes...

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Highlights of the year include playing for some amazing local festivals like Wetback, TNT, Orbital Gathering. The local festivals really are my favorite gigs to play, I just love the vibe and taking my camper van along to make a day and night of it. I love staying for everyone’s sets and catching up with everyone.

I also started my own Drum & Bass events in 2022 with my brand, Raw Rotation. We’ve put nights on in Newquay and Bodmin and hope to do some more further afield soon.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

A few younger artists have messaged me this year asking for advice. I always say, take your time to perfect your mixing skills and don’t rush it. Go and support the local events and bring mixes along to give to promoters. I personally love getting handed a mix or being asked to listen to material. And most importantly, just enjoy the music. I’m 20 years deep into my DnB now, and it really is a way of life for me. I love seeing people dancing to my sets, whatever the size of the crowd. That would be my biggest piece of advice to inspire future artists, just have fun with it and don’t get too caught up in social media or trying to compare yourselves to others… We are all unique in our own ways!

I went down the dark and techy route on this mix. Like I mentioned above, I play all sub genres of Drum & Bass, but I don’t usually get a chance to play this vibe in clubs and festivals because it doesn’t often fit the occasion. So I’m super happy to have been able to put a whole set together of all the darker vibes, which I absolutely love in this mix. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.

Hi, I'm Matt Exelby and I used to play house music parties across the South West and European resorts. I've not played out for a little while (my other work gets in the way) but have never lost my love for all things dance music. My DJ sound has matured over the years and I now enjoy playing the deeper, long edits of tracks to build a session. This is something I used to enjoy when playing warm up sets at events - taking a crowd from zero to the full dance floor and really building a set.

...it still gives me tingles when it all marries up perfectly.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?

Behind the scenes I have been orchestrating Little South and working hard with the South West's promoters to ensure that we support the South West dance music scene as much as possible. Little South has a team of contributors and event promoters that scour the South West scene to highlight the best artists and events no matter how big or small.

I am based in South Manchester and have been a DJ for over 25 years. I specialise in Underground Progressive House and focus on delivering musical journeys through my sets with detailed transitions and complex soundscapes. What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?
Highlights of the last year include my continuing residency with KASHAY SALON and some fantastic events with my co-residents and international guests. In particular we had a superb event at Plan B Club in Malmo, Sweden earlier this year.

I have also worked closely with my good friend and Plymouth legend Tim French who has been my guest in Germany earlier this year and I am delighted that Tim will be playing with me again in September. I have also continued my great association with Paul Honey's Melodic Beats Music and recently provided a third mix for the podcast series. I am looking forward to more events in Germany, Sweden and elsewhere in Europe with KASHAY SALON over the next 12 months.

For any aspiring Artist I would encourage hard work, dedication and patience - with a focus on promoting high quality music there are definitely opportunities available!

The set I have prepared for Little South features some of my favourite progressive house tracks.

The mix is a musical journey from ambient organic vibes through to deep melodic progressive and underground club vibes towards the end. I really enjoyed preparing the set which I think showcases my style perfectly and hope that everyone enjoys listening to it!

I started djing way back in the early 90’s with my first regular gigs coming around 95-96...

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

Oi Oi Little South podcast listeners, thank you for taking time to listen to this mix and I hope you enjoy. Thanks to the Littlesouth crew for asking me to compile this mix this month, it is always a pleasure to put one together especially after my first one was way back in 2009!!! I started djing way back in the early 90’s with my first regular gigs coming around 95-96 where hardcore was crossing over into the hardhouse/early trance sound. My early influences were Dj’s such as Slipmatt, Easygroove, Ratty, Seduction and later as my sound evolved, Sasha, Digweed, Judge Jules, Paul Oakenfold etc. To be able to pinpoint my exact style is hard as I’ve played so many genres. What you can expect are sets that have a little groove, some epic break downs whether that was playing in front of large crowds for FANTAZIA and Slammin vinyl to more intimate gigs such as the ‘DROP’ nights, it's all about moments that can be shared on the dancefloor.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?
My highlights of the year have been asked to play on numerous occasions at 23 Bath Street in Frome. It’s a great little club that is gaining a reputation within the D&B scene, but does encourage other forms of music, warming up for Eat Static was a particular highlight. My best mates wedding on Glastonbury weekend last year was also a big highlight. Just playing for 6 hours straight for all our mutual family and friends in the middle of some woods, changing styles until the sun came up was absolutely beautiful. This year I look forward to playing a couple of sets at Glastonbury Festival in some of the crew bars (5 min drive from my front door). I also have my own ‘Summer Soundz Saturdays’ garden parties at various locations around Shepton Mallet playing everything from jazz, soul, afrobeat to progressive house!

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

Those who are new to the scene and want to get into it need to be able to understand that anyone can press play on a set of digital decks and play all the big tunes. There is a time and a place for this but understand that the art of being a warmup dj is just as, if not more important than the headliner! Set the mood, read the crowd, react to it and don’t be afraid to search out those lesser-known tunes, these are the ones that will stand the test of time. And it's NOT ABOUT YOU!!! You are there to provide a soundtrack, don’t get the hump if you are stuck in a corner where no one can see you.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

This mix is inspired by the by the sound that I’m playing a lot now, a progressive/ groovy vibe. I think this would sit well either on a terrace in the sun or in a dark and dingy basement at 4 am when everyone is just locked into a groove. There are no ‘big anthems’ so don’t expect massive hands in the air breakdowns where everyone is getting their phones out, it tries and show cases how a set should flow and move through different phases. As the first Italian DJ to tour the world, he’s put his homeland on the global techno map. As the first DJ to mix live on the eminent BBC music show Top Of The Pops, he’s helped bring techno to the widest audience possible. As the man behind Meganite – one of Ibiza’s most successful and longest running nights – he has recruited some of the world’s most respected underground DJs as residents; Adam Beyer, Marco Carola and Chris Liebing.

This journey to legendary status began over 25 years, 700 releases and 7 million unit sales ago when he became the first Italian finalist in the world DMC championships in 1988. Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

We are Joey & Dan, a duo that go by the name PuzLuv. We’re currently residents for event brand Loco, based in Exeter & we also produce our own music. We have been DJ’ing together since 2019 when we first got hold of a DDJ 200 controller, playing tunes off Joey’s iPhone in Dan’s kitchen, we started a mix series called Kitchen Sessions which led to a live radio show on Love Summer & from then we started to produce music!

It’s important not to compare yourself to anyone else...

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?
We have had a really good start to the year with many highlights! The main highlights that come to mind are playing at the sold out Magic Hatstand in January, supporting Sorley at Move in March with Loco Exeter & having a mix released on Data Transmission which gave us some good exposure! We also recently released a two track EP on London based record label Solaris which was really exciting!

In terms of future info, we have some festival bookings coming up this summer (Altitude Festival & Love Summer Festival), a gig in London and potentially Ibiza too, so lots to look forward to! We’re also working hard in the studio to try and improve our productions and curate our sound so we can release more soon!

If you put the work in and remain consistent in whatever you are passionate about, it will pay off! It’s important not to compare yourself to anyone else because everyone is on their own journey!

The Greatest Great Estate Review

The Great Estate Festival this weekend was a roaring success as the grounds of Scorrier House in West Cornwall opened it's gates to the hoards of sun-kissed party lovers. This event appears to be growing in popularity with every year that goes by, and you don't have to look too hard to see why. The wide audience the event attracts has created a very unique vibe. Families, free spirits, ravers, and any other walk of life you can think of coming together for the shared experience of good music, good food and absolutely stunning weather. One minute, you could find yourself working hot iron in a real forge, the next cooling down with a relaxing massage before trying your hand at archery or getting a tattoo!

The children got an intense workout at Maddam Wongs House of Wrong with Junior Jungle. For anyone who has never experienced heavy jungle music in a tent half filled with parents dancing like it's 1996 alongside fifty under 10's is an experience not to be missed and might actually be the best party I've ever attended.

The main stage played host to some incredible acts. Headliners included The Selecter, Primal Scream, and Symphonic Ibiza. The latter of which played us out on the final night and was nothing short of euphoric in such a stunning setting at the end of a perfect weekend.

As if that lineup didn't impress, there was a vast array of both established and new, quality performers. Henge, The Pattern Pushers and local favourites The Velvet Hands... the choice and variety seemed endless.

Choice and variety are also rather apt when your tummy starts yearning for sustenance after all that activity. The smells coming out of the food trucks and bars could easily land you with a serious food coma. Afterwards why not try a delicious rum cocktail from the 8Track bar whilst you marvel at the performers setting up on it's roof. The future plans for which could see up and coming new talent getting to perform atop of it at a festival near you.

So, as the post festival blues kick in, I find myself already thinking to 2024 and what the next iteration of The Great Estate may bring. One thing is certain, The Great Estate has cemented itself as a firm favourite for many this weekend. Bravo!

Hello everyone, my name is Pete Rees and I've been DJing since the late 90's when my love for dance music started, especially the sound of trance. I've always loved the sound of a rolling bassline with a melodic vibe so I've tried to stay true to my sound and follow that vibe through my sets.

The highlights of the past year which really stand out for me have been warming up for Lisa Pin-Up, an ’90s/early 00’s favorite of mine; becoming a resident DJ for Khaos Events where I’ve played alongside some of Plymouth's legendary DJs; being a resident DJ on Beach Radio where I’ve shared the airwaves with the likes of Sebastien Leger, Mark Knight, Judge Jules, Nora En Pure; playing at the amazing Terrace Cafe and Bar on Plymouth Hoe for Sonar where my first event was the official pre-party for 1 Big Summer and more recently playing alongside Amber D.

DAZEE
Bristol based DJ, producer, label owner, broadcaster and original jungle pioneer, Dazee brings her wealth of experience plus a huge charge of energy to the dancefloor. Her style is a bouncy mix of jungle rollers and steppers with a peppering of classic vibes: the sound that is synonymous with her label, Ruffneck Ting records.

Dazee's career began playing “Hardcore Jungle Techno” at free parties and raves in her hometown of Bristol. She began her “Jungle Crusade” in 1992 and co- founded Ruffneck Ting alongside Markee Substance (Kosheen) in 1993. She was a regular at all the major 90’s raves, including Universe, Dreamscape, Helter Skelter, and Hysteria. If you ever went to Legends of the Dark Black at Plymouth's Dance Academy during the mid to late 90s, you will remember her energetic sets.
Dazee has continued to DJ at world class events and produce great music on labels such as Breakbeat Culture, Colourstone, Siren Records, Hocus Pocus and of course Ruffneck Ting for three decades. She is a resident for one of the UK's largest DnB brands, Run and a regular at Hospitality, Love Saves The Day Glastonbury and Boomtown, to name but a few. On top of this, Dazee enjoys passing on her musical experience in her lead lecturer role at BIMM University, as well as Ruffneck Ting Academy mentoring projects, helping aspiring artists progress in the scene.

EUPHONIQUE
Originally from Manchester but now based in Bristol, Euphonique emerged into the Jungle and DnB scene in 2008. Euphonique shares with Dazee a high energy stage presence and a sound which fuses original jungle roots with contemporary drum and bass styles.
She has produced tracks on respected DnB labels such as Hospital, Born On Road, Jungle Cakes, Dread Recordings, Ruffneck Ting and her own imprint Subwoofah Records(launched 2013). She is the BARE queen of the wobbly bassline! Subwoofah Records was responsible for breaking new talent such as Epicentre, Sl8r, Motiv and K-Jah and has had a string of DnB number 1s.

Euphonique has featured heavily on Radio 1 and 1Xtra. Alongside Dazee, she co-hosts a show on the recently relaunched KOOL FM as part of the Jungle Cakes family, Fridays 6-8pm. From Glastonbury to Boomtown, Warehouse Project to Hospitality on the Beach, E1 to Fabric, UK to Europe to Asia and beyond; Euphonique has taken her music all around the world. Music teacher, mentor and lyric writer, Euphonique is motivated by empowering the next generation and championing equality and representation across the scene. She is often referred to as a key mentor and inspiration for young artists breaking into electronic music.

The Home of underground electronic music in Torbay, supporting local DJ’s and event promoters, backing some prestigious headliners, The Attic is a place for music enthusiasts and general party goers to let their hair down and enjoy some of The South wests finest underground electronic music.

Spotify Launches AI DJ In The UK and Ireland

Artificial intelligence will attempt to personalise playlists with music suggestions and an AI voice DJ.

Spotify has launched it's 'AI DJ' service for premium subscribers. The new service is being rolled out worldwide and the UK and Ireland are the latest to receive the update. Personalised playlists are nothing new within Spotify but the addition of an artificial DJ voice between tracks is something Spotify believe will be a game changer.

“We know that our users love personalised experiences, so we’re confident that DJ will become the next beloved Spotify feature to re-discover old favourites and find something new. It was really important to us that the product felt truly tailor-built for music lovers in the UK and Ireland — for instance, so they’ll be provided cultural commentary around some of their favourite artists and tracks," said Spotify's UK and IE Managing Director Tom Connaughton.

He continued: "Users who tune in [to] use the DJ feature right around launch may hear about how Arlo Parks is releasing her new song at the end of May alongside her first collab with Phoebe Bridgers, or how Jazzy is the first Irish woman to top the Spotify charts there. It’s these touches and details that are really winning DJ users over.”

"We found that having the voice sound human is key for users to foster a deeper connection with DJ, as human voice provides familiarity and instant context," said Spotify product director Zeena Qureshi back in March. "By incorporating voice traits such as pacing, projection, emotion, and emphasis, it results in a DJ that’s emotional and highly realistic."

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ sound.

My DJ sound is a carefully curated unique blend of different electronic music genres. I’d say it’s a fusion of organic house, deep house and melodic techno. My sets are crafted to take listeners on an emotional journey through different sonic landscapes and atmospheres.

I've been diving into the world of music production...

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?
The past year has been super exciting, I was involved in helping to put on a couple of events and had the pleasure of playing to and meeting so many lovely people. I also had the opportunity to organise and host my own night, creating a platform to support and showcase talent and connect with other music lovers in the community.

With regard to what the future holds I couldn’t be more excited!! I hope to host another night in Cornwall at some point. My investment in my digital studio has opened up my creativity and is pushing me to learn new softwares like Ableton - I've been diving into the world of music production and learning how to create my own beats and tracks. It's been a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience so far, and I can't wait to see where this journey takes me.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

If you have an itch to go and do something, don’t let ANY BODY tell you that you can’t do it, especially yourself! We can often be our own worst enemies. If you asked me even a year ago if I thought i’d be where I am today I probably would have laughed in disbelief. Amazing things can happen if you persevere with something you are truly passionate about.

There’s a saying I found the other day - ‘People who say it cannot be done should not get in the way of those who are doing it.’ - it is most apt when we come to speaking to ourselves. Anything is possible, the only limit is your belief in yourself.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

As with every time I play, I had a totally different idea of what I wanted to play before I jumped on the decks - I wanted to start off with some down tempo organic house and gradually get a bit deeper. My choices here are more Indie to begin with starting off with one of my favourite tracks B1 by a very talented Italian producer called CIOZ.

I tend to get a bit caught up in whether to play new stuff vs stuff that’s obscure but older so i’ve used this podcast as an opportunity to get back to my roots in some degree and revisit some artists that have carved the soundtrack to my life like Booka Shade, there's some newer material by them but I wanted to keep it old school with Corrosion. The same with the System 7 track, Love For the Phoenix from a classic album that was in 2 parts - X Port and N Port. I’ve also included some tracks that had just come out when I bought my decks and started learning how to mix last year like Epic Resurrection, love the production on this track and Space Motion makes some cool psychedelic music.

Finally I finished off the mix by lightening everything back up with Ultraviolets breakdown to hopefully leave everyone feeling good and ready to face the day.

Firstly thank you to Little South for asking back to deliver another podcast. For those that don’t know me I’m Dave Hunt, part of the South West techno collective SiN.

What are your highlights of the past year and what is planned for the future?
The past 18 month have been quiet for me as Ive busy with work and family commitments. When ever you dip away from the scene especially for a long period of time i t’s hard to get your foot back in the door. Even though I haven’t been playing out I have still be following and keeping up to date with my passion for all things techno. I’ve always tried to evolve and move with the times.

Tell us something positive to inspire future artists.

A few bits of advice I would give for future artist is stick with your passion. It takes a lot of work getting yourself noticed but it’s worth it in the end.

T his mix is all about high energy full on peak time tunes. I have taken inspiration from the latest movement in the techno scene especially from the Verkinpt events in the Netherlands where everything is turned up to the max. I absolutely love it!!! Hey Little South, thanks once again for having me back. I am DJ Leroy, a long time SW DNB DJ / Promoter, and it is my pleasure to bring you another hour long DNB Mix.

I have been involved in running a new monthly DNB Night in Truro, called TR1BAL DNB. We focus on highlighting talent from all over the South West. You can get involved by joining us on the last Friday of every month at The Office Club, Truro!

With party season well and truly underway, I have been going out a bit lately, recently playing at the Wetback Party and TR1BAL.

Upcoming gigs include supporting DJ Hype with Rinseout in Plymouth at the new Strobe Club, visiting the Raw Rotation gang for their new venue launch night as well as a series of collab nights in the pipeline.

Describe your DJ sound.

My DJ sound is definitely broad, I tend to include all kinds of DNB within my mixes, as like most of us, my tastes vary depending on my mood. I like to try and get a bit of something for everyone in a mix if I can.

What is your view on how the live music and nightlife scene has been shaped since the Covid lockdowns?

Tough, really tough. The initial flurry seems to have died down, but it has allowed music to go live again. This can only be a good thing. It is really good to see old faces doing new things and new faces coming up with new flavours, it has been a creative catalyst I think. Hopefully the fans of live music will continue to support your local scenes efforts....they can't do it without them!

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

So this mix has a real spread of DNB styles in it, from newer minimal & rollers, to fresher jump up, interspersed with some classic dancefloor fillers from the last few years. Hopefully a bit of something for everyone if you are into Drum & Bass. Lots of dubs, bootlegs, and unreleased bits and bobs. See what you think :)

I've been playing out live now for 2.5 years. I also have fire eating skills. I play out with the hope of lifting people up and wanting everyone to raise their vibrations and make people smile. I have residency in the secret garden in Newquay every Sunday for a funday through the summer. Namaste nights in the Dead Famous bar, Newquay every six weeks for the late nighters. And Sun Downer sessions at the Great Western Hotel, Newquay on Saturdays.

I describe my sound as euphoric power house. When doing clubs but I do play more chilled Balearic vibes too with a soulful sound! I love sassy vocals!

What is your view on how the live music and nightlife scene has been shaped since the Covid lockdowns?

I feel people lifestyles have changed and late nightlife is less of a thing these days... people prefer festivals and day party's and then you have a balanced life. Music is always going to have its place in the world... definitely medicinal to many people.

This playlist starts off vocals soulful, funky... and then builds up .. it's a mixture because I have many different styles. I like to tantalise people eardrums with fresh sound! I try to tune into my crowd and venue.

Anne-Marie has been announced to head up one of the Eden Project's Eden Sessions on July 7th 2023.

Platinum-selling, multi-talented Anne-Marie is the latest stellar act to be announced for the 2023 Eden Sessions.

The Essex-born singer-songwriter and high-profile coach on the TV show The Voice UK will take to the stage in front of the spectacular Eden Biomes on Friday July 7.

Already due to play this year’s Sessions are global superstar Lionel Richie (June 7), viral rock sensation Yungblud (June 10), top USA rockers The War on Drugs (June 18), American singer-songwriter Jack Johnson (June 23), Southern Californian, Grammy-nominated Incubus (June 24), the iconic Pet Shop Boys (June 28), and the awesome Kasabian (July 1).

Rita Broe, Managing Director of Eden Sessions Ltd, said: “Anne-Marie is a fabulous addition to what promises to be one of our greatest-ever Sessions summers. We can’t wait to welcome this amazingly talented young artist to our stage.”

Anne-Marie’s unique, striking voice first hit the music radar when she guested on tracks by Rudimental and in 2016 she went on to score a number one hit as the main vocalist on Clean Bandit’s worldwide smash, Rockabye.

Since then the former three-time world Karate champion’s self-effacing attitude and anthemic, highly personal songs about being cheated on, body issues and gender-free love have made an extraordinary connection with millions of fans across the globe.

Her first solo album, Speak Your Mind – rammed with tracks to dance, laugh and cry to – was the UK’s biggest debut album of 2018.

It swiftly propelled her into a whole new level of celebrity as a style icon, agony aunt and a woman fearless enough to tell the truth through exceptional tunes.

She went on to be acclaimed the Los40 International Artist of the Year and Artist of the Year 2019 at Stylists’ Remarkable Women Awards.

T ickets for Anne-Marie at the Eden Project on Friday July 7, 2023, cost £45 plus a £5.85 booking fee.

Tickets go on sale to Inside Track members at 10 am on Thursday March 30. Inside Track closes at 10 am on Monday April 3. The general ticket sale opens at 5pm on Tuesday April 4.

In September 2019 the Eden Project and global live events company AEG Presents announced a new partnership, Eden Sessions Ltd, to run the Eden Sessions.

In September 2021 Volvo Car UK announced a new three-year partnership as the Official Automotive Partner of the Eden Project and the Eden Sessions music concerts, a deal brokered by AEG Global Partnerships.

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ life.

So I've been on the club scene since the late 90's playing clubs across the UK. before taking a career break and moving to the south west in 2011. From weekly club residencies to running events, Its been great to see the dance scene at its peek in the early 2000's to where it is today. Watching the industry evolve and take on the challenges of the last few years has been interesting and challenging for those involved. Looking ahead to the next 12 months it will be great to put on some more events here in Cornwall. Watch this space for up coming information as i'm sure the team at Little South will be the first to hear.

Describe your DJ sound.

As far as my sound goes I have a fairly varied taste from Garage, D&B and House to Progressive and Hard house. Whatever gets the dance floor going really so nothing has really changed from the early days of sifting threw local record stores and sorting the recent promo's sent through from labels.

What is your view on how the live music and nightlife scene has been shaped since the Covid lockdowns?

My view on the recent challenges since the Covid Lockdowns is that our night life has never faced harder times. With Club landlords forced to sell to property developers, cheap supermarket alcohol affecting profitability and authorities withdrawing or not granting new late venue licences it's a really tough industry to be in. Local clubs are at the forefront of the arts when managed correctly and should be protected at all costs. We have our love of discovering music, the want to find and share new experiences and meeting new people to hold us together. It's something that is within all of us and can't be taken from us by binge watching TV or be sold cheap online. I think Clubbing is a movement that will always be here and can only get better going forward as culture changes.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

So my podcast really is a mix of different genres from over the last few years. I am really enjoying the revival of upbeat and progressive sounds that are at the forefront of the scene at the moment. It's almost a taste of some of the flavours that dominated Club land in the mid to late 90's. It's so good to see it all come back around. Ray Keith is the perfect artist for our launch party as he personifies BARE's ethos to be aware of the foundations of our beautiful scene and to use these to support us to grow into the future - rooted in the past but not stuck there.

Ray Keith is regarded as the Godfather of D&B and is one of the pioneers of the jungle and drum and bass scene. From the foundations he helped to create he has remained at the forefront of DnB as a DJ, producer and record label owner. His Dread Recordings label has continued to promote independent artists for almost 30 years.

If you've ever listened to his Thames Delta Radio shows online or read his book Dark Soldier, you will know he's also a really great guy. We can't wait to welcome him to The Attic, a venue which prides itself on supporting underground music.

The Pet Shop Boys are including the Eden Project in the highly anticipated Dreamland greatest hits live tour. The Eden Sessions will host an evening where the duo's best-loved hits will be performed. Tickets are priced at £76 plus a booking fee.

Pet Shop Boys will bring their hugely-anticipated Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live tour to the Eden Sessions on 28 June this year. The show promises to be a joyous two-hour audiovisual celebration of their spectacular career dating back to the 1980s.

Pet Shop Boys Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe are the most successful duo in UK music history. Since signing to Parlophone Records in 1985, they have achieved 42 Top 30 singles in the UK including 22 Top 10 hits and four number ones, West End Girls, It’s A Sin, Always On My Mind, and Heart.

Pet Shop Boys have toured extensively over the last year and have seen their music embraced by new generations of music fans around the world. Their Glastonbury Other Stage headline slot received rave reviews everywhere, with The Guardian deeming it “simply one of the best collections of songs in the whole of pop music”, while The Independent called it “a life-affirming, era-straddling set.”

Rolling Stone UK added to the praise, stating the slot was “a spectacular, hits-packed showcase, one that underscored that Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe are behind some of Britain’s finest ever pop songs.”

The Pet Shop Boys have a long history of embracing and supporting environmental messages in their work, from their 1988 hit “It’s a Sin”, which was inspired by climate denial, to the message and visuals in their 2016 single “The Pop Kids”. The band decided to perform at the Eden Sessions because they wanted to support the Eden Project’s goal of engaging people and inspiring positive environmental action.

Please introduce yourself to those unfamiliar with your DJ life.

It's great to be invited back on to Little South again, for those who don't know me, I'm Ben Chandler, i'm 32 and i'm from North Cornwall. I've been involved in the South West electronic music scene for about 11-12 years now but only DJing for the last 7. The majority of this time has seen me playing techno across all the ever changing sub genres but I do still have a huge love for house music and also a soft spot for trance as that's where my electronic music journey began. In those 7 years i've been very fortunate to have played at some really great parties and events all across the South West and beyond - some highlights include multiple times at the infamous Masked Ball here in Cornwall, including running stages with The SiN crew and the Orbital Gathering collective and Frendzy. I am playing at the Orbital Gathering in June this year (Forbidden Garden Party in Devon) which I am super excited about. Previously outside of Cornwall I have been lucky enough to have supported The Yellowheads at Wire in Leeds and Gary Beck and Spektre at the Rainbow Venues in Birmingham to name a few.

... I do feel I am now finding the sweet spot of my personal taste of the techno to play...

Describe your DJ sound.

As I have previously mentioned, the genre known boldly as techno, is ever evolving and I would definitely say so is my sound. Right now I am taking influences from two sides the Raw/Hypnotic techno being played by the likes of Marron and Setaoc Mass to name a few artists who are both absolutely on top of their game. I am talking 140bpm proper energetic stuff, yet still retaining groove and swing, perfect for a dark warehouse or and early morning vibe. Moving on to the other side of the coin for me right now is what I played in this mix, bridging the gap between my two favoured styles, much harder and more industrial but not quite the full blown 'hard dance' and 'hardcore' which is common in a set of hard techno DJ these days. What I like to think is just the right amount of punch, acid riffs and slamming kicks without too much distortion or reverse bass. Heavily influenced by the likes of Italian power duo of 999999999 Paula Temple and CHRS, I do feel I am now finding the sweet spot of my personal taste of the techno to play and to equally go raving to - that's sitting somewhere happily inside the 140bpm realm. The energy is definitely where it's at for me, alongside plenty of loops and layers.

What is your view on how the live music and nightlife scene has been shaped since the Covid lockdowns?

I think due to covid and the pandemic, a lot of the smaller venues and event organisers have really struggled to gain momentum in starting up again, this is definitely apparent here in the S outh W est. W e all saw a large decrease in summer time booking s at regular event s that just did no t go ahead - it is such a shame as some of th o se were fantastic events that were greatly supported. The bigger players I think have managed to bounce back reasonably well as they have the huge fanbase to guarantee their sales in advance. If anything it has made people party more at home and in 'private' locations or venues.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

So this podcast was a really fun one to put together, it is a blend of harder faster 'peak time techno' mixed alongside some hypnotic sounds and by the end it was sitting at nearly 150bpm, which if you had told me 2 years ago that in 2023 I would be recording sounds at that speed I would have called you crazy. It is where I am feeling the energy is right now. I wanted to put that across in this mix how I have felt at events over the last few years being on the dancefloor and feeding off that energy. I also included a few little vocal samples and loops from some classic hardhouse tracks which I felt just add a little bit of nostalgia and familiarisation without being a cheesy rework of the orignal. I always like to search for my tracks from avenues that are not always explored too deeply. Besides a few tracks in this mix, most of them were fresh to me and I was content with the end product as I hope you all are too. Thanks.
