End of an Era: Juno Download Shuts Down After 20 Years

Digital music retail giant Juno Download has closed its doors with immediate effect, marking a major shift in the electronic music landscape.

As of Monday, 1st June, the platform's homepage has been replaced with a farewell message to its loyal community: "It’s been our privilege to share some of the most incredible music from the most amazing artists, but we're sorry to say, that the time has come to say goodbye. There's still plenty of great music available from Traxsource and Beatport, but for now, this is Juno Download signing off."

The closure highlights the evolving nature of how people buy and listen to music. Addressing the shutdown, Juno Download’s COO, Lucas Garcia, noted that the rise of streaming and decentralized platforms altered the marketplace:

"It's obviously a sad day, but as streaming has become the dominant model of digital music consumption, artists and labels are now more connected than ever with their fans via social media and 'direct to fan' services like Bandcamp, so the role of the music webstore is becoming less significant."

If you are an existing customer, here is what you need to know about your account status:

  • No new purchases: The storefront is officially inactive, and you can no longer buy new tracks.
  • Access to purchases: You can still log into your account to access and re-download your previous purchases.
  • Support: If you have questions about the website going offline, you can contact the support team directly through their contact page.

A Lasting Legacy

Launched in 2006, Juno Download spent two decades serving as a vital ecosystem for DJs, producers, and electronic music fans. It was widely regarded as a premier source for tracking down rare digital files, underground cuts, and club-ready tracks.

While the digital download store is gone, the brand's physical counterpart survives. Juno Records, the online vinyl retail store, remains fully online and functioning for vinyl collectors and DJs who prefer physical media.
