Cakeboy will be back out of his box when the live opportunities return i'm sure!

Hi, please introduce yourself to those who are unfamiliar with your DJ work.

I have been producing & performing under the Cakeboy monika since 1998. I am not a DJ in the traditional sense. I come from a studio production background so chose the live route when it came to playing out, allowing me to mix my own music with other people's in a creative & spontaneous way.

How have you utilised the 2020/21 lockdowns?

I actually started an entirely new musical project, which i'm pretty sure wouldn't have happened if my usual festival schedule hadn't suddenly ground to a halt. It's been great. A much more thoughtful & musical sound has been pouring out of me & i'm working with a singer too, writing lyrics & everything!. I've called it 'Holocene' & i'm unveiling tracks as they happen. Cakeboy will be back out of his box when the live opportunities return i'm sure!

Take the hook from one tune & splice it with another...

Describe your DJ style.

Bouncy breakbeats, bass house, mash ups, lot's of live samples. A bit tongue-in-cheek at times. I always aim to entertain.

Talk us through your podcast mix track selection.

I'll say this... virtually none of the tunes are in thier original form. I love to pull things apart & knit them back together in my own way. Take the hook from one tune & splice it with another, alter the arrangements. I've always worked this way. It ensures a bit of originality & a sense of fun.
