Leroy Lays The Drums
We caught up with DJ Leroy to tell us what he has been up to and what has inspired his latest podcast:
"Ez Little South, I am pleased to be back with another Podcast for you guys. It has been a bit of a bonkers year since we caught up last, so I thought I should fill you in with what's been going down in my DJ world, and throw some tunes in the mix for you too.
DJ Leroy // Little South Podcast // Feb 17, is an hour long 3 Deck Mix, which is a compilation of tunes I have been playing out over the last few months, spanning the Drum & Bass genre, including Rollers, Jump Up & Anthems, along with some newer promo tunes from both local & national artists, that are yet to be released. Recorded straight off the bat, in one take, to give a real feel of a live performance mix."
"2016 was by far and away my busiest year musically to date, bookings, events, radio shows & festivals saw my time stretched to the limit, and already 2017 is shaping up to be more of the same, if not busier! Starting in Cornwall, Jon (Devinyl) & I continue to run our monthly DNB night High Rollers DNB UK at The Office Nightclub in Truro, which saw us bring a whole host of talent from the Drum & Bass scene to Cornwall. We try and debut acts in the SW if possible, as we wanted to bring fresh names to the County, such as Logan D, The Prototypes & MC Felon, Levela, Macky Gee, Sub Zero, Upgrade, Serial Killaz, DJ Blackley, Jayline, Low Down Deep Tour featuring Serum, Voltage & Logan D, Ironlung, DJ Ollie, and already in 2017, Mollie Collins. Our next event is again a Cornish Debut for Rowney & Propz (G13 Records) with MC Toddlah, DJ Sleepless & MC TNT. Catch us doing our thing on Friday 3rd March at The Office, Truro.
I've got to say, I am proud of what we have achieved against a backdrop of a struggling Clubland at present. To keep unto date with what we have lined up for 2017, check our social media links, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Soundcloud & Mixcloud, simply search High Rollers DNB UK!
Outside of High Rollers, I have had a very busy year, both as a DJ & Promoter. Gig wise, I have been lucky enough in 2016 to play at some major events, such as Lockdown Festival, Glastonbury Festival for the 2nd year, Lemonfest, Rough Tempo Radio, Shindig Weekender and various events for Rinse Out & Rinse It in Devon.
I also run a small little event called Rave in the Cave, and we are holding our 4th event at Carnglaze Caverns on Saturday 29th April, hosting acts such as DJ Guv, Upgrade, Mr Traumatik, Phibes & local support from High Rollers, Rinse It, Code Red DNB UK and more.
Again, I am extremely proud of what we have achieved with the Rave in the Cave parties, as we have the benefit of using the most unique venue in the UK. We held a fundraiser event on Boxing Day 2016 to assist the wonderful people at Carnglaze Caverns, as they were hit with a sizeable bill for the upkeep of the Cave. It was amazing, as all our artists who performed of Boxing Day, donated their time and efforts to a noble cause, meaning out target of £500 was smashed in one night, we managed to raise £2150 for them, and we have plans for a second fundraiser coming soon!
If you have never been to the one of the Rave in the Cave parties, then you have missed out, check us out on Facebook & all the usual social media links. We are teaming up with the bossman of the Devon DNB scene, Mr. Nice (Rinseout) for the next event, so expect nothing but serious Bassline & DNB vibes, from 9pm till 3.30am!
Anyway, I don't intend to bang on too much about what I have been upto, but I would like to give a plug to some of the SW scenes breakthrough artists in 2016.
Being somewhat of a veteran in the scene, you always tend to keep a close eye on who's doing what, where, and it is refreshing to see how much passion there seems to be in the electronic music scene again in the South West.
I am sure anyone who knows me well would expect me to say this, but my lovely Mrs, Cozzie Watt has been making serious waves, both as a DNB DJ and a pioneer of Bassline Music too. 100% one to watch, you heard it here first!
Special shout to my man Jack The Ripper, who is killing Jump Up at the minute, & Joe at SweatShop Audio too, this guy has got a style unlike others, and I feel he is going to blow up too.
Maximum respect to all the SW players, but special shout outs to (in no particular order).. Devinyl // Wye Fi // Re:Defeat // Mr Nice & the RInseout family // all the High Rollers crew // The Office Nightclub // Corp // MC Express // Spin EZ // MC Delight & Lost in the Dark Radio // Sweatshop Audio // Twizzle & The Bulletproof Records gang // Jack The Ripper // Random Concept // Rough Tempo // Shindig & the Glasto fam // RV // and most importantly, those who show support & attend live music events in the SW!
So, there you go, a little insight to what has been going down, but trust me, 2017 is going to be BIG!
Thanks for taking to time to listen / read, I look forward to seeing you on the dance floor soon!
Peace, Love & DNB!"
