Imagine growing up in a family and being taken to exotic countries countless times in your youth, and experiencing the differing styles of art forms from each country that you would only normally get to see in your adult life.
Belinda Moore did exactly this with her family who owned several travel
Businesses, and then from the age of 18 traveled independently.
It is the vibrancy and intense rich colours of countries such as the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean that have influenced her unique way of painting which is in a colourful pointillist style.
After living and working as a signwriter, ceramics designer and boat painter in Greece and Israel Belinda made the decision to return to college to gain formal qualifications in Art. This took her to North Oxford School of Art, and Northbrook College of Design and Technology in West Sussex, where she graduated in Textile Design in 1994.
Since then she has maintained her Art interests and has exhibited every year since, in the UK, Holland, Australia and more recently in California, where she was working as a scenery artist in the small coastal town of Cambria on the famous Highway One up the coast towards San Francisco.
After returning to England in 2002 she began her own painting and decorating business and was approached by an interior design business in Lincolnshire to paint countryside scene murals in English Country Inns.
This type of work was more traditional in style, but it also opened doors to other work as people could see that she was also a talented artist in a variety of different areas.
A local nightclub owner in Stamford Lincolnshire, who had seen her work in the Country Inn, approached Belinda and asked if she could paint some Ultra Violet banners as backdrops for themed party nights. She managed to complete a total of 30 banners which were each 25 foot long, and they were all designed by her and hand painted, it was very hard work.
After this the work came pouring in, and soon there were commissions from local bands and music festivals organizers. At this time some of her three dimensional works were being used as stage props. For example the hand painted mannequin that she embellished with sequins, beads and antique jewellery was used as a centerpiece for Hazel O’Connor’s stage show at the Stamford Riverside Festival of Music. As were other pieces - such as highly decorated violins which were used in the Acoustic Stage Marquee at the same festival.
This type of work in the music/ entertainment industry had been familiar to Belinda as she had worked alongside her brother a robot/stilt walker/circus entertainer at festivals such as Glastonbury, Raindance, Eclipse, Renaissance and the original Tribal Gatherings, where she helped with stage props, costumes and laser shows.
Due to family reasons in 2004 she moved to Cornwall, and since then has
displayed some of her larger Ultra Violet works in the Hub on Church Street Falmouth. and also had a successful exhibition in the Falmouth Arts Centre in July of 2005 selling her unique one off designs.
She is currently working towards an exhibition that is being held in St. Ives Guildhall in July and is hoping that showing her artwork and three dimensional work in this renowned artists colony will give her some exposure within the South West, and inform people that not all artists in Cornwall necessarily produce traditional artwork, but something that is totally different and exotic.
Ideally she is looking to further her talents in the field of Art by
promoting herself as someone who is experienced in artistic/decorative styles from other cultures that can be incorporated into any media, in any form, whether it be graphic design(CD covers, etc), textile design (Fabrics for furnishings/fashion), interiors/murals, painting furniture, or corporate identity.
She currently works from home and would like to meet like minded artists who are not afraid of using colour!! and that are interested in possibly starting a studio in the South West, and setting up a website to promote decorative arts with a funky, colourful, exotic and vibrant image.
