When we launched Cornwall's first 'DJ of the Year' competition in December 2006, we had no idea that it would attract so much interest. We had over ten thousand votes and there was one clear winner just by the votes alone. But we also looked at how popular the podcast episodes were and what the listed DJs gave back to the Cornish clubbing scene. The DJ who consistantly showed that he was dedicated to the Cornish clubbing scene was Kristoff.
We caught up with Littlesouth's 'DJ of the Year', Kristoff to see what he made of it all...
"Firstly a big thank you to everyone who supported me and helped me win the Littlesouth DJ of the year 2006.
Its been a very exciting year, with lots of new avenues I have been able to explore.
Playing in venues such as THE MI BAR(FALMOUTH),THE HUB(ST IVES),THE KOOLA BAR(NEWQUAY),THE BOSUNS LOCKER(PENZANCE),THE BARN CLUB(PENZANCE),L2(TRURO) and to many after parties to list.
I also discovered the Littlesouth website which has opened more doors for me,getting podcasts out to a wider audience,being able to promote gigs and getting feedback which helps me develop myself as a DJ.
I play a style which I hope just seems slightly different than what people generally hear out in the clubs.I try not to play the original versions of tunes out but to find a different remix,something not always easy to find but definitely worth the hassle of looking for.
Being a resident in 2006 @ the mi bar , bosuns locker and the hub gives me a chance to play to quite a varied crowd trying different things in each place,which helps keep everything fresh and exciting.
So what does 2007 hold for me....well, firstly the 3 residency will still be going strong.I have organized a DJ competition @the bosuns starting sat 6th Jan and running through till the end of January.Myself and Madam Zu have got 2 new nights in starting up in penzance from 20th Jan @ ojs(above Wh Smith) and lots more stuff in the pipeline with Littlesouth...... :-)
